Division 6 Best Feature Photo/Category 19 First place Fair Erin McCracken, Evansville Courier & Press Comments: This was a clear first-place winner. The ultimate fair feature photo. We all look for this every year but rarely find it. Excellent job. Second place Water shadow Jon L. Hendricks, The Times (Munster) Comments: Weve seen this a lot but rarely done this well. An excellent, graphic image. Everything works perfectly. Third place Furry fan Matt Detrich, The Indianapolis Star Comments: Were speechless. Impossible to forget this image once youve seen it, and not necessarily in a good way. Best Multiple Picture Group/Category 20 First place Wyatt Kidwell, 3, plays with his trucks under the bleachers of the livestock arena as his family watches the 4-H goat judging competition at the Warrick County Fair on July 22, 2012. Generations of Kidwells have spent many hours playing in the dirt around show rings, the family said. Tornado Erin McCracken, Evansville Courier & Press Comments: This was a big story told very skillfully. Second place State Fair stage collapse Matt Kryger, The Indianapolis Star Comments: This is a compelling set of photographs with amazing immediacy and good follow through. Third place Tornado Matt Detrich, The Indianapolis Star Comments: This was a comprehensive report of a big story. Best Picture Story with Audio or Video Story/ Category 21 First place Remembering Maude Logsdon Denny Simmons, Evansville Courier & Press Comments: Beautiful photography. Great use of song and poem! Fantastic! Why did this only run now when she died in 2003? Second place 49 miles, 49 minutes Matt Detrich, The Indianapolis Star Comments: Fantastic photography, videography and story! Very moving. The creepy background music made my hair stand up and my skin crawl! Third place Burlesque taking off in Indianapolis Danese Kenon, Kelly Wilkinson & Dawn Mitchell, The Indianapolis Star Comments: Very well-done and a very interesting piece. It was tastefully done on a subject that many journalists might not try to tackle in this medium. Good history and insight in a short and sweet package. Page 64 Kimberly Baldwin, 22, and her best friend, Whitney Walker, 20, crawl through debris from the home of Charles and Diana Turner, Baldwins grandparents, looking for pictures and personal belongings on Feb. 29, 2012. An EF4 tornado destroyed the Turners home, which is next to Baldwins home.
