Division 2 Best Special Section/Category 26 First place Flood 1937 & beyond Staff, Dearborn County Register (Lawrenceburg) Comments: Local. Interesting. Creative. Great job! Second place Brown County Holiday Almanack Staff, Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Makes me want to visit Brown County. Best Use of Graphics/Category 27 First place CEDIT; So you want to start a business in Nashville?; Schooner Valley Village Sara Clifford, Kevin Lilly & Megan OBryan, Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Wow! Great use of graphics. Nice variety. Color really draws reader to story. The (almost) full page map with explanations couldnt be more clear. How to start a business directions clean and easy to follow with simple graphics and use of color. Second place Lawrenceburg Convention-Event Center; Aurora Greendale Lawrenceburg election; Senate looks at dumping recycling tax Erika Schmidt Russell, Dearborn County Register (Lawrenceburg) Comments: Also a great entry for graphics, but theyre a little busier than first-place entry. Sometimes less is more. Third place No award given. Best Website/Category 28 See Page 12 for all divisions. Best Community Service/Category 29 First place Now you know (salary series) Megan OBryan & Sara Clifford, Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: Wow! The Brown County Democrat (Nashville) did readers a huge service with this well-written and well-researched entry. Good, solid local government reporting and digging below the day-to-day meeting coverage has become a lost art. (I am 54 and have written about local government in Iowa and Minnesota since age 12.) This was great work and is something that is sorely missing in newspapers today. Wonderful job! I would love to have this paper in my community. Second place Community wellness Sara Clifford & Megan OBryan, Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: This was a great package of articles on a topic that is all too important. Given the costs of NOT keeping people healthy, this series of articles serves as a true wake-up call. Information was presented in an easy-to-read and informative matter with a variety of issues and viewpoints represented. Great job! Third place Brown County primary election 2012 Sara Clifford, Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: This was an excellent primary election piece. Too many voters ignore primary elections and they shouldnt. This entry provided voters with all of the information they need. Best Newspaper Design/Category 30 First place Sara Clifford, Brown County Democrat (Nashville) Comments: None given. Second place Staff, The Corydon Democrat Comments: An excellent second. Especially like the section headers so reader can easily identify the section theyre most interested in. Photos draw the reader into the article and are well-placed to separate the stories/headlines. Whats inside is nice to have in this larger-paged paper. Third place No award given. Page 30
