Photographer framed it perfectly. Second place Gas fire Joe Harpring, The Republic (Columbus) Comments: This picture almost made first place. It was a close call. We liked the balance between the flames and the water. Again, an unusual event captured well. It has a nice, subtle quality. Center Township firefighters help after a car struck a pole, shearing it off, on Grant County Road 400 East. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Marion General Hospital. Third place Fire Don Knight, The Herald Bulletin (Anderson) Comments: Huge flames; it looks like the photographer almost beat the fire department to the scene. Nicely done. Slide Garet Cobb, Times-Mail (Bedford) Comments: This really stood out from the crowd. Great light and perfect pan technique make this a winner. Second place Pass Scott Roberson, Daily Journal (Franklin) Comments: Very good peak-action moment. Crop could have been a bit tighter. Third place Fight Chad Kline, The News-Sun (Kendallville) Comments: Perfect expressions; excellent technical work. We would have cropped in from the left. Dakota Jackson slides during his heat.
