Feels like the photograph was captured at exactly the right moment. Second place Forest fire Jeremy Hogan, The Herald-Times (Bloomington) Comments: Beautiful spot-news image. Great light, great composition. Third place Arrest Tim Bath, Kokomo Tribune Comments: Photographer was in the right place at the right time and didn���t flinch. Excellent. David Shipley carries his dog, Tater, which he found under the family home. The house, next to the tornado-battered Henryville High School, was destroyed by a tornado. Best General News Photo/Category 16 First place Flag Tim Bath, Kokomo Tribune Comments: Just about perfect. This has been done, but rarely this well. Texture in the flag really makes this stand out. Second place Occupy Jeremy Hogan, The Herald-Times (Bloomington) Comments: Great moment. Not perfectly composed or color balanced, but the moment and emotion make up for it. Third place Home Joseph C. Garza, Tribune-Star (Terre Haute) Comments: Photographer took a chance and was rewarded. Good work at not focusing so tightly on the main subject and showing the whole scene. Nicely done. Best Sports Feature Photo/Category 17 First place Pile Michael Heinz, Journal & Courier (Lafayette) Comments: It���s so unusual to be able to see almost every face on the team in this wonderful photo. Second place Touchdown Jennifer Shephard, The Truth (Elkhart) Comments: This is a very dynamic photo with great faces ��� in a sport with helmets no less. Third place Pile Joseph C. Garza, Tribune-Star (Terre Haute) Comments: This is a crazy dog-pile photo; almost disturbing, but great work by the photographer. Best Sports Action Photo/Category 18 First place Purdue University baseball players celebrate their win over Michigan to take the Big Ten championship May 12 in West Lafayette. Purdue claimed its first Big Ten championship in baseball since 1909 with a 14-3 win. Touchdown Chris Howell, The Herald-Times (Bloomington) Comments: Wow, what a snatch. Beautiful technique. Second place Interference Chris Howell, The Herald-Times (Bloomington) Comments: This is also technically great with great faces.
