Powers finished the 3.1-mile course with a per- sonal course record time of 21:29, a 45 -second im- provement over the 22:14 she posted while compet- ing in the Southridge Invi- tational on the same course on Aug. 22. "Halley came back strong after a couple races that weren't where she wanted to be," said Pike Central head coach Josh Roach. "She came out with a differ- ent strategy this week and it helped propel her back up to where she wanted to be." Last year, when the PAC Championship Meet was held at Gibson Southern, Powers placed 10th out of 57 total runners with a time of 22:20. Senior Cailey Furman just missed earning honor- able mention all-conference honors for the second year by placing 21st overall with a personal course record time of 22:53, an 140 -sec- ond improvement over the 25:13 she ran on the same course during the South- ridge Invitational on Aug. 22. Also placing for the La- dy Chargers were fresh- man Lauren Young, who finished 25th overall with a time of 23:45; freshman Charlotte Dudenhoeffer, who finished 26th over- all with a personal record time of 23:48, besting her previous PR time of 24:12 by 24 seconds; freshman Jenna Meyer, who finished 29th overall with a personal record time of 23:58, best- ing her previous PR time of 24:24 by 26 seconds; senior Brittany Young, who fin- ished 31st overall with a sea- son-best time of 24:16; and junior Lillie Pancake, who finished 32nd overall with a season-best time of 24:16. In addition, junior Erin Craig finished 31st out of 44 runners in the boys' and girls' high school open divi- sion with a personal course record time of 25:39, a 120 -second improvement over the 27:39 she ran on the same course during the Southridge Invitational on Aug. 22. Along with Powers, earn- ing First Team All Confer- ence honors were Forest Park junior Claire Mehling, who placed first overall with a time of 19:18; Forest Park sophomore Josie Berg, who placed second overall with a time of 20 :18; Heritage Hills junior Caitlin Lueken, who placed third overall with a time of 20 :37; Forest Park freshman Megda Al- vis, who placed fourth over- all with a time of 21:09; Gib- son Southern junior Abbye Huelsman, who placed fifth overall with a time of 21:24; Heritage Hills freshman Katie Winkler, who placed seventh overall with a time of 21:30 ; Forest Park soph- omore Abby Hauser, who placed eighth overall with a time of 21:44; Forest Park sophomore Mayson VanMe- ter, who placed ninth over- all with a time of 22:00 ; and Tell City freshman Elena Hagedorn, who placed 10th overall with a time of 22:01. As a team, Pike Central finished fourth with 106 points, trailing Forest Park (24 points), Gibson South- ern (67) and Southridge (96). Heritage Hills (108) was fifth, followed by Tell City (157), Tecumseh (186) and North Posey (196). South Spencer also par- ticipated but did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score. HUFF PLACES 9TH TO GARNER FIRST TEAM ALL- CONFERENCE HONORS In the boys' division, Pike Central High School junior Draven Huff placed ninth out of 53 total runners to earn First Team All-Con- ference honors for the first time. Huff completed the 3.1-mile course with a per- sonal record time of 16:59, 12 seconds better than his previous PR time of 17:11 and a 79 -second improve- ment over the 18:18 he post- ed while competing in the Southridge Invitational on the same course on Aug. 22. Last year, when the PAC Championship Meet was held at Gibson Southern, Huff received honorable mention all-conference ac- colades when he placed 19th out of 52 total runners with a time of 18:11. "Draven had a phenom- enal race and finally broke under the 17-minute mark," Roach said. "He set the tone for the whole day for us. He has been great for us attitude-wise and leader- ship-wise and we will con- tinue to lean on him for those things throughout the postseason." Both freshman Ijaa Chambers and senior Ca- den Armstrong earned honorable mention all-con- ference by placing 17th and 18th, respectively. Chambers ran a person- al course record time of 17:43, a 62-second improve- ment over the 18:45 he post- ed while competing in the Southridge Invitational on the same course on Aug. 22. Caden Armstrong, who also received honorable mention all-conference ac- colades in 2015 and 2016, ran a season-best time of 17:45, a 61-second improve- ment over the 18:46 he post- ed while competing in the Southridge Invitational on the same course on Aug. 22. Also placing for the Char- gers were freshman Colt Armstrong, who finished 24th overall with a person- al record time of 18:14, best- ing his previous PR time of 18:47 by 33 seconds; se- nior Jacob Bohnert, who finished 39th overall with a personal record time of 19:58, besting his previous PR time of 20 :12 by 14 sec- onds; senior Garrett Mang- es placed 41st with a time of 20 :23; and sophomore A.J. Hill placed 42nd over- all with a personal record time of 20 :24, besting his previous PR time of 20 :29 by five seconds. In the boys' and girls' high school open division, sophomore Sam Theising finished eighth out of 44 runners with a personal record time of 20 :11, best- ing his previous PR time of 20 :25 by 14 seconds; se- nior Lane Ridao finished 20th overall with a person- al record time of 21:20, best- ing his previous PR time of 21:30 by 10 seconds; fresh- man Sam Jones finished 21st overall with a person- al course record time of 21:33, a 53-second improve- ment over the 22:26 he post- ed while competing in the Southridge Invitational on the same course on Aug. 22; and freshman Lane Potts finished 26th overall with a time of 22:55, a 81-second improvement over the 24:16 he posted while competing in the Southridge Invita- tional on the same course on Aug. 22. Earning First Team All Conference honors were Tell City senior Leo Simp- son, who placed first over- all with a time of 15:48; Tell City junior Nate Kaiser, who placed second overall with a time of 15:53; Heri- tage Hills junior Mitchell Hopf, who placed third over- all with a time of 15:59; Tell City senior Thomas Simp- son, who placed fourth over- all with a time of 16:02; Heritage Hills senior Noah Hufnagel, who placed fifth overall with a time of 16:19; Gibson Southern junior Tra- vis Hart, who placed sixth overall with a time of 16:24; Tell City senior Alex Ram- sey, who placed seventh overall with a time of 16:35; Forest Park senior Dustin Luebbehusen, who placed eighth overall with a time of 16:50 ; and Tell City junior Chase Beckort, who placed 10th with a time of 17:04. "It was a great day for improvement and it made SPORTS BRIEFS Co-ed softball benefit tourney to be held Oct. 21 A co-ed softball tourna- ment benefitting Tommy Daves will be played on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Winslow ballpark, start- ing at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $200 per team. Youth Day is October 14 Saturday, Oct. 14, will be a fantastic day for any- one interested in spend- ing time in the field or on the trap range. The 12th Annual Pike County Bird Hunter's Club NR A Youth Day is nearing, so mark your calenders for a day of varied outdoor activi- ty plus the chance to win one of 13 quality shotguns or rifles in a random draw- ing. Youth Day begins at 8 a.m. EDT with sign- in, breakfast and then a choice for youth of start- ing with BB gun shooting, darts, .22-caliber rifle, muzzle loading, archery, trap shooting or Chukar hunting over dogs. After lunch and a day of activities for young- sters and their families, a search and rescue demon- stration will be presented. This year, the Union Vol- unteer Fire Department will have a fire truck on display. At the conclusion of the day, a random drawing will be held for six Rem- ington 11-87 semi-auto shotguns, four Remington 20 -gauge 870 shotguns, two Ruger .22 rifles and the grand prize of a $700 Weatherby semi-auto shot gun. Included in the draw- ing are Bear Archery sets and equipment. All youth ages seven through 18 are welcome and are provided break- fast and lunch. Do not bring any firearms or am- munition to the event. All equipment plus 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 410 and 22 shells are provided by the club, the NR A and local organi- zations and sponsors. Par- ents are welcome and can enjoy breakfast and lunch for a donation. All 4-H shooting sports, boy and girl scouts and all other interested youth are wel- come. A hunter education card is required for Chu- kar hunting. The first 50 youth to register will re- ceive a free T-shirt. The club is located be- tween Oakland City and Petersburg about two miles west of SR 57 at Di- vision Road. Signs will be posted. The top five teams and the top 10 individuals from non-qualifying teams will advance to the regional meet, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Prides Creek Park in Petersburg.
