"As a whole, the girls' and boys' teams both competed very well," Butcher said. "They each were battling for a PR or a place on the all-confer- ence team. I stressed to each of them that they should leave it all out on the course today and en- joy the memory." ball much harder at us. We had a hard time keeping the serve tonight." Tell City, which improved to 21-5 overall and 3-3 in the PAC, committed just four errors in 71 attempted serves – resulting in a 94.4 percent serve rate – while surrendering the serve an additional eight times with- out scoring a single point. With the first set tied at 1-1, the Lady Marksmen scored back-to-back points on kills by junior Kammie Jo Hayes and sophomore Addison Fella to take a 3-1 lead. A fter a net violation gave Pike Central a point, the first of five service errors in the opening set by the Lady Chargers turned the ball back over to Tell City, which promptly scored two straight points on ace serves by senior Rachel Malone to open up a 6 -2 lead. Falling behind by as ma- ny as five points at 8 -3, 9 -4 and 11-6, Pike Central ral- lied, scoring three consec- utive points – including one on a kill by senior Brook Nalley – to pull to within 11-9. However, a dink by senior Bailey Weikel and a kill by Hayes sparked a 6 -1 scoring run by the Lady Marksmen that extended their lead to 17-10. Pike Central would get no closer than six points the rest of the first set as Tell City took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five match. The Lady Marksmen would score the first four points of the second set – including single points on a kill by Hayes and a block by Weikel – before Pike Cen- tral rallied with four con- secutive points – including one on a kill by Nalley and another on an ace serve by junior Becca Crow – to pull even at 4-4. A fter Tell City snapped the tie by scoring four straight points to take an 8 -4 lead, the two teams ex- changed points until the La- dy Marksmen – leading 10 -7 – scored eight unanswered points to stretch their lead to 18 -7. The Lady Chargers could get no closer than eight points as Tell City took a 2- 0 lead with the second-set victory. However, trailing 7-3 ear- ly in the third set, Pike Cen- tral refused to give in, scor- ing three straight points – on one kill and two blocks by junior Alyssa Jenkins – to pull to within 7-6. The Lady Marksmen would stretch their lead out to 10 -7 before Pike Central scored back-to-back points – including one n a kill by Nalley – to close back to within one point, at 10 -9. Tell City would prove equal to the challenge, scoring six of the next sev- en points – including two on kills by Hayes – to open up a 16 -10 lead. Then, after back-to-back kills by Lady Chargers ju- nior Kylie Dawson cut the deficit to 16 -12, Tell City scored six consecutive points – including two on kills by Hayes and one on an ace serve by Malone – to stretch its lead out to 22-12. Pike Central staged a late rally, going on a 4-0 run – sparked by a kill by Jenkins, an ace serve by senior Shel- bi Pipes and a block by Kylie Dawson – to pull to within 22-26 before Tell City ticked off the final three points – the last two on an ace serve by junior Caitlin Teague and a kill by Fella – to finish off the straight-set win. For the match, the Lady Chargers had five blocks – three by Jenkins and one each by Lamey and Nalley. "We did several adjust- ments to their hitters so we could get our hands on more blocks," Walton said. "The middles did a great job getting touches to slow the ball down." Crow and Shelbi Pipes had nine and six set-as- sists, respectively, while se- nior Morgan Whann had a team-high 15 digs. Crow al- so had 12 digs. In the junior varsity match, sophomores Au- brie Dawson and Alexis Englert and freshman Ad- die Johnson had four kills each as the Lady Chargers dropped a 25 -14, 22-25, 15 - 14 loss to Tell City. Shelbi Pipes had two ace serves while sharing the team-high in set-assists with Crow at three each. Whann led Pike Central in digs with 18. "The Tecumseh match went very similarly to the Tell City match," Walton said. "We felt that we were constantly missing defen- sively, so that hurt out of- fense. The times we were able to get the ball to the setters, we were able to get aggressive hits back over." "Overall, against Tell City and Tecumseh, I was pleased with our overall play," Walton added. "I be- lieve that the girls worked hard, communicated and didn't give up when we were down. They were con- sistently helping each oth- er find holes in defense and tried to work around their big blockers." In the junior varsity con- test, Keepes scored a team- high six points – on five kills and one ace serve – and had 12 digs in Pike Central's 25 - 16, 25 -24 loss to Tecumseh.
