MUNCY NAMED 2017 RIVER FRIENDLY FARMER Joe Muncy, of Francisco, has been selected as 2017 Riv- er Friendly Farmer. This se- lection was made by the Gib- son County Soil & Water Con- servation District's Board of Supervisors. Joe raised corn and soy- beans in the Patoka river wa- tershed using notill, WAS - CoB's, filter strips and rock chutes. He has ground in In- diana's bird habitat and in the federal Conservation Re- serve Program (CRP), and believes he was the first-ever tile and terrace system in Gib- son County. For the 50 + years that he farmed, he never had an operating loan and owns over 1,000 acres in Gibson, Pike and Dubois counties. Joe and his wife, Kar- en have been married for 57 years. They have two chil- dren, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Their children were active in FA and in Gibson County 4-H. The River Friendly Farmer received a sign at the recogni- tion at the Indiana State Fair in August. RUTH'S NEWS Karla Schroeder came by on Thursday to visit with Ruth Morison at her home in Princ- eton. Karla was a sweetie and brought Ruth a milkshake. Lucy McKannan had lunch with Ruth on Friday. Debbie Alexander, Lucy McKannan, Thomas Schatz and Todd and Audrey Morri- son had dinner with Ruth on Sunday. Ronnie, Patty, and Tylar Morrison visited with Ruth on Monday. Tonya Krieg went to a doc- tor's appointment on Monday and has bronchitis and an ear infection. Ruth had a doctor's ap- pointment on Tuesday in Vin- cennes. Ronnie and Tylar Morrison went out to eat on Tuesday eve- ning. Justin Morrison, of Hazle- ton, is now home from the hos- pital. Beth Sturgeon is at the Wa- ters in Princeton for Rehab. Alan and Tina Barrett had a family celebration for Al- an's 60th birthday. Everyone enjoyed the day. WEEKLY TIDBITS Nina Holderbaugh and Sha- ron Williams stopped by the home of their mom Luella White last Monday to do her laundry and enjoy dinner. Lu- ella prepared BBQ ribs, car- rots, green beans and dessert was cookies from Casie. They had a great visit. On Tuesday morning Luella went to thera- py. She goes twice a week to help with her balance and oth- er problems. Dessi Waple went to a doc- tor's appointment last week and is having surgery on Mon- day. Randy Armstrong went to the Gibson Southern and Pike Central football game on Fri- day evening in Petersburg. Last Sunday Mike Johnson visited with his mother-in-law Rita McGuyer and mowed her grass. On Tuesday Rita, her sister Fran Junkin and her friend Joye went to Montgom- ery for lunch. Rita went to a doctor's appointment in Ft. Branch on Wednesday. She had lunch in Vincennes on Thursday with her daughter Tish, sister Faye and friend Roseann. Rita is looking for- ward to this coming Friday when she'll have new carpet installed at her home. Charlie and Betty Jo Wright went to a doctor's appointment last week in Vincennes. A fter- wards they did some grocery shopping. On Sunday, they went to Bunker Hill Baptist Church for worship service. There was a birthday par- ty for Jennifer Waple, whose birthday is coming up on Oc- tober 12. The Evansville Fall Festival beings on Monday on the west side of Evansville and many lo- cals are looking forward to at- tending. Ollie and Sue Doublemount went uptown one day last week to do some shopping. Alice Whittington went to Princeton on Wednesday and Thursday. On Saturday, Alice and her husband Leon went to Patoka Lake with friends. A fter church on Sunday, they went to a local Chinese restaurant for dinner with friends Fred and Lois Braselton and Ben Whit- tington and his family. Leon Whittington went to the Princeton Community High School twice last week to watch volleyball games. Betty Cain did some shop- ping on Friday with her daughter Candy Hunt. Betty also got her hair done. Betty's son, Curt Cain visited with her for awhile last week. Dallas Paul and Nancy Col- lins went to prayer service at Bunker Hill Baptist Church before running a few errands and eating dinner in Vin- cennes. On Wednesday, they attended Bible study at the church. Nancy's nephew came in with family to spend time with them over the weekend. The Mt. Olympus Class of 1950 gathered in Princeton. Those attending were Harold and Judy Williams of Mt. Car- mel; Wilma Joan and Leroy Brown, of Evansville; Joann Eisle, of Petersburg; Mary Lou Deffendall, of Petersburg; Priscilla Terry, of Mt. Carm- el; and Cornelia Bane, of Pato- ka. Everyone enjoyed a great lunch and visiting together. Kathy Ritcheson attended her grandchildren's football practices and games this past week. Her grandchildren are Andrew, Kaleb and Garrett Richardson. She always has a great time watching the kids play. Kathy is also painting rocks and hiding them around town for folks to find. Walt and Marcella Robb were treated to a special day with Denny, Diane and Colt. The group went to Colt's last tennis game of the season. They also had a special sur- prise of going to the Liver- more reunion. Janie Arnold enjoyed a visit from the Anderson family re- cently and one of the Ander- sons is her nurse. She also en- joyed a visit from Joann Eisle. Janie lives at Golden Living Center in Petersburg. Jim and Inez King went to Indianapolis for Inez's doc- tor's appointment. They also had a visit from their neighbor last week. Joe and Bette Coomer, of Wheeling, enjoyed a visit from a good friend Leroy Soultz, of Alaska, and neighbor, Greg Soultz. Margie Wheeler had com- pany over the weekend from her grandchildren, Robbie and Shirley Slone and their newborn son. Margie was de- lighted to hold the baby and rock him to sleep. On Sunday, her sons Bill and Bob Slone stopped by for dinner. Barbara Potts and Brittney White visited with Vera Potts on Sunday.
