A fter a point by the Lady Elites tied the score at 17-17, Pike Central scored seven consecutive points – includ- ing six following serves by Adams – to take a 24-17 lead. Haubstadt answered with a 5 -0 scoring run to pull back to within 24-22 before a service error gave the La- dy Chargers the match's fi- nal point. "The match was exciting," Pike Central head coach Stephanie Shedd said. "We had all around great serv- ing and passing. The game was close the entire match. Haubstadt had a good team and we had some long vol- leys. Our movement on the court was excellent." On Wednesday, Sept. 27, Stilwell had nine points off serve while Kavanaugh and Mills added eight and sev- en, respectively, to lead Pike Central to a 25 -10, 25 -8 vic- tory over host Vincennes Clark. Leading 7-4 in the first set, the Lady Chargers scored 10 of the next 13 points – includ- ing four following serves by Hayliue Fulcher – to open up a 17-7 lead. A fter the Lady Alices scored to pull to with- in 17-8, Pike Central tallied six consecutive points – in- cluding five following serves by Kavanaugh – to stretch its lead to 23-8. In the second set, the La- dy Chargers held an early 6 -3 lead before scoring nine straight points – including eight following serves by Stilwell – to stretch their lead to 15 -3. Vincennes Clark would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the match. "We played well and served well," Shedd said. "Macey had awesome serv- ing. I am proud of the way the team played." In the "B" match, the Lady Alices defeated Pike Central in straight sets, 25 -17, 25 -18. Loren Huck led the Lady Chargers with four points off serve while Jaidyn Gogel added three. Marley Ralston and Breanna Hunt had two service points each. "We hung with Clark, but couldn't quite come out on top," Shedd said. "They played hard but struggled a little with serving. I am excit- ed about the team's improve- ment and attitude through- out the season so far." On Monday, Oct. 2, Ad- ams had a team-high nine service points while Mills added seven more to lead Pike Central to a 25 -20, 25 - 10 victory over visiting Bar- ton. Trailing 14-11 in the first set, the Lady Chargers scored 12 of the next 13 points – including five fol- lowing serves by Gogel and five following serves by Ad- ams – to surge to a 23-15 lead. In the second set, Pike Central (7-2) held a 9 -7 lead before going on a 9 -1 scor- ing run to extend its lead to 18 -8. Barton would score to pull to within 18 -9, but the Lady Chargers scored sev- en of the next eight points – including three following serves by Fulcher – to com- plete the straight-set victory. In the "B" match, Gogel and Emma Hendrixson had six points off serve each as Pike Central defeated Bar- ton 25 -16, 25 -17 to even its record at 3-3. "Both teams played great," Shedd said. "The A team started off slow but kicked it in gear and came out with a win. The B team played well. We struggled with serving, but won on our passing. We have just a few games left and I'm very proud of our success and ac- complishments so far." Pike Central will play at Vincennes Clark on Wednes- day, Oct. 4, before closing out its season on Monday, Oct. 9, at North Knox. NETTERS Continued from page 1 PCHS grad to be inducted into Kentucky Wesleyan College's Athletic Hall of Fame Pike Central High School graduate Jenny (Boyd) Knepp will be in- ducted into Kentucky Wesleyan College's Ath- letic Hall of Fame on Fri- day, Oct. 6. A member of the class of 1995, Jenny (Boyd) Knepp played both volley- ball and basketball at Ken- tucky Wesleyan and was a four-year starter for both teams. She was a part of the 1991-92 women's bas- ketball team that still owns the best record in program history at 21-7. She was also a three- time Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection, in addition to earning GLVC Newcomer of the Year her freshman season and an All-GLVC honorable mention as a junior. She still holds the school's career rebounding record at 807 and is eighth in career steals with 152. On the volleyball court, Jenny (Boyd) Knepp was the captain of the 1994 squad that was the only team in program history to make the GLVC post sea- son tournament. In 1995, she was named the GLVC Female Student-Athlete of the Year and was the first player in program histo- ry to earn four Academic All-GLVC honors. She still holds three records in the volleyball records books with 1,116 career kills, 523 career blocks and 358 blocks solo. She also is fifth in digs at 1,037. The Kentucky Wesley- an College Department of Athletics announced the 10 -member Class of 2017 in July. The Induction Ceremo- ny will take place during Kentucky Wesleyan Col- lege's Homecoming Week- end on Friday, Oct. 6. Jenny (Boyd) Knepp graduated from Pike Cen- tral High School in 1991. She still holds the school's girls' basketball records for most rebounds in a game (23), in a season (253) and in a career (878). She also holds the record for high- est career field goal per- centage (54.6 percent).
