Poplar Street, Petersburg From its blastoff on the day of Pentecost, the church has been under attack. Shortly af- ter its fiery beginning, its leaders were called into question by the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin members were upset be- cause the apostles were preaching in the "name of Jesus." Peter had the boldness to stand up to the same people who killed Jesus and laid the blame for his death on their feet. He also declared there was "no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." The battle against Jesus and his ministers has remained unabated. The pressure against clergy is at an all-time high. According to a recent study, a staggering 42 % of pastors have considered quitting full- time ministry. Research suggests somewhere between 250 -1500 pastors leave the ministry every month. There are many reasons cited, such as burn- out, salary, family, and health. Clergy-killing toxic congregations causes a good number of resignations. The sad reality is denominational officials and church leaders often shroud this fact in secrecy. The new unsuspecting pastor en- ters the lion's den, oblivious to the terror that awaits them. Clergy killer congregations are churches where a small group of members are so disrup- tive that no pastor can effectively lead for long. Usually led by one person, a clergy killer tar- gets a spiritual leader who interferes with his agenda for controlling a congregation. Often a clergy killer recruits easily pliable congregants to do their dirty work. They con- Greetings and a few solutions from the Ram- bler. Here I sit in front of the computer again ready to share a few words of wisdom. As we look at our front yard we see some- thing missing and it is that pile of sawed up tree mess. I have spent several hours and have written about our mess since it happened in June. I have promised this firewood to several people but it is hard to even give away sawed up wood. I have even offered to haul it to peo- ple to no avail. I finally have had some people who sincerely wanted the wood and I was more than glad to saw it up little enough for them to handle eas- ier. There is still some left on the lower side of my yard and these folks say they are going to come after it. It feels good to be this close to being done with that horrendous wind storms debris. I helped our neighbor haul the rest of his debris to a man's home so he can use it so the neighbor has his yard clear now. I am not look- ing forward to another mess like we have had. I was given an ultra sound of my liver recent- ly and although I can't understand complete- ly what they have written down on the report it doesn't sound much worse. I must be hold- ing my own. There wasn't any talk of pserio- sis, but I am still dealing with my liver which has been damaged by the hemochromotosis Have you ever heard some preacher say: "There are many things in the Bible which are hard to understand but, thank God, the plan of salvation is as simple as can be." Well the plan of salvation is simple IF we obey II Timothy 2:15, "rightly dividing the Word of truth." Otherwise it is far from simple. The Apostle Paul wrote: "We conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law" (Rom. 3:28). Yet James wrote: "By works a man is justified, and not by faith on- ly" ( James 2:24). Again, at Sinai God said to Israel through Moses: "If ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a pecu- liar treasure unto Me above all people …" (Ex. 19:5). But our Lord said, as He sent His apostles to witness for Him that, "He that be- lieveth and is baptized shall be saved… and these signs shall follow them that believe: in My name shall they cast out demons, they shall speak with new tongues…" etc. (Mark 16:16 - 18). Thus, according to their "great commis- sion" water baptism was required for salva- tion and miraculous signs were the evidenc- es of salvation. Confusing? Contradictory? By faith we believe that God is working for us even if we cannot see Him working. We trust that God is moving for us in unknown and beau- tiful ways. God is moving be- hind the curtains and setting up a grand show for His glory and praise. Hebrews 11:1 says it like this: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for an assur- ance about what we do not see." We need to look to see where the Lord might be mov- ing in our lives and join Him in ways that bring Him glory.
