Poplar St., Petersburg 812-354-8500 Pike County's News Network Since 1898 Cail ran it in from the three and Tell City took the lead 7- 0 at the 10 :14 mark of the sec- ond quarter. A fter a Charger three and out, Tell City took over inside it's 10 -yard line and took to the ground, scoring on a nine- yard run at the 4:07 mark of the Second Quarter. In all it was a 9 play 87 yard drive in which the Marksmen ran the ball on every play. The extra point was blocked keeping the score 13-3 Tell City. Two plays into the next drive Charger QB Matthew Meadows threw a deep pass down the left sideline that was intercepted, and, the Marks- men were threatening to take a three-score lead before the break. Tell City advanced in- to PC territory just convert- ing a 4th and 4, with a 5 yard Quarterback keeper. Braden Howald stepped up with an in- terception of Dupont just pri- or to the break and kept the score 13-3. When the Third quarter started, Tell City once again took to the ground. Eight consecutive runs ended with a 10 yard touchdown. The two point conversion was good, and, the Marksmen lead 21-3 approximately half way through the quarter. At that point, momentum took a huge swing in Tell City's fa- vor as the Chargers fumbled on the first play from scrim- mage on the next drive. Tell City took over at the PC 14 and Dupont scored on a 5 yard run four plays later. Justin Leeds blocked the kick and Tell City led 27-3. Pike Central fought back. With the game looking to be out of reach, Meadows rolled out of the pocket and found Braden Howald who broke a Marksmen tackle and streaked into the end zone for a Charger 55 yard touchdown pass. Nathanael Kell convert- ed the two-point try with a 2 yard run, and, it was Tell City 27 Pike Central 11 with 3:58 to go in the 3rd Quarter. The Marksmen immedi- ately struck back two plays into the next drive with a 43 yard touchdown run and the two point conversion, pushing the margin once again to 24 points, 35 -11 with 3:07 left in the 3rd quarter. The Chargers recovered a fumble early in the 4th quar- ter and set themselves up for a score. This time Meadows completed a 27 yarder to Pey- ton Howald, giving the offense the ball at the 2 yard line. Bra- den Howald ran it in from 2 yards away with 10 minutes to go in the game. The conver- sion failed and the Chargers were down 35 to 17. Tell City continued to grind it out the rest of the way, scor- ing two more times on run- ning plays accounting for the final score of Tell City 50 Pike Central 17. A fter the game Charger Coach Kelly Brashear saw several bright spots but said the Chargers have to elimi- nate mistakes, "I liked a lot of things that we did, two weeks in a row our lineman have blocked really well, our backs have ran really well, Matthew Meadows has thrown the ball really well. I wasn't satisfied with the outcome. It's that same story, we just shot our- selves in the foot a few times… Once we eliminate those mis- takes we are going to start seeing W's." Pike Central (0 -7) returns home next Friday for a 7:30 pm contest against Forest Park (1-6). "We ended the season with a win over a very good Forest Park team," said Charger Coach Phil Knust. "Before the match we explained to the players we would not be giving a ton of instruction for the match and wanted them to use what we've been working on with them all season. And that if they had questions or want- ed to talk to us to let us know. "The win tonight was well earned by the team. They had to think more for themselves and step up and make chang- es they needed to make. This is a team that had beat us earlier in the season so it was nice to see the growth the team has made," said Knust. Eli Keeker at number one singles won his match 8 -6, while Llinkyn Knust and Joshua Smith won number one singles 8 -7 and Tyler Collins won 8 -6 at number two singles. Kade Benner lost at number three singles 8 -4 and Caisan and Cainan Russell lost 8 -4 at number two doubles. In the second round matches the Rus- sells won 6 -0, while Andy Jonson and Joshua Smith won 6 -3.
