Lana Griffith Pike County Circuit Court Clerk (October 5,, 2022) hspaxlp IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER MONITORING REQUIREMENTS NOT MET FOR OAKLAND CITY WATER DEPARTMENT Our water system recently violated a drinking water standard. Although this is not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation. We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. e results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets EPA's health standards. e last monitoring period testing for Total Organic Carbon was either not performed or failed to comply with all the requirements of the Stage 1 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule (Stage 1 DBPR); therefore, we cannot be sure of the quality of the water at that time. What should I do? You do not need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. What does this mean? is is not an immediate risk. If it had been, you would have been notified immediately. Total organic carbon {TOC) has no health effects. However, total organic carbon provides a medium for the formation of disinfection byproducts. ese byproducts include trihalomethanes {TTHM) and haloacetic acids (HAA5). Drinking water containing these byproducts in excess of the maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) may lead to adverse health effects, liver or kidney problems, or nervous system effects, and may lead to an increased risk of getting cancer. What Happened? What is being done? (Explain below the reason, corrective action, and when the system expects to be or was back in compliance). In August, we collected samples containing our monthly TOC (total organic carbon) samples. In transit the cooler holding our samples was knocked open and the ice came out causing the water to not be cold enough to sample. We requested more sampling bottles and when we received them, the water plant was not in operation, so we were unable to collect repeat samples in a timely fashion. We have already collected samples for TOC for the month of September and are waiting for the results to be made available. e water plant should be back in full compliance when we get our results for our September sampling. We anticipate resolving the problem within Immediately. For more information, please contact Avery Dyer at 812-749-4221 or by mail at 301 S. Franklin St. Oakland City, IN 47660. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can ap- pear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will ap- pear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
