Poplar Street, Petersburg Weisman claims second PC Invite championship By James Capozella Press-Dispatch News news@pressdispatch.net Xavery Weisman claimed her sec- ond Pike Central Invitational Title on Saturday, breaking away from a Jasper and Boonville runner at the halfway after more than a mile of side-by-side running. Weisman not only captured her second PC Invitational title, but recorded her career best time and the new school record. Her 18:44.75 was 26 seconds ahead of Jasper's Ally Wigand and 54 seconds in front of Boonville's Emma Gresham, who crossed in third place with a 19:38 finish. The team's fourth place finish was aided by Anna Whitehead running 10th overall in 20:33.74. The junior Lady Charger clipped nearly two minutes from last year's time at the South Knox Invite and on Saturday ran 26 seconds quicker than last year's PC Invite. Sophomore Kaylyn Warner ran a 22:13.19 to 29th place followed by senior Kennedy Willis in 34th with a time of 22:28.24. Ashlynn Kirk was 79th in 25:39.86 and Kylee Weathers was 95th clocking 27:28.62. CHARGER BOYS TAKE 9TH The Charger boys finished ninth, led by Jeremy Delobel in 34th with a time of 18:01. Dallas Reutepohler placed 44th in 18:39. Peyton Chanley ran 61st in 19:24, Carter Blackwell was 66th in 19:34 and Jacoby Smith was 75th in 19:59. Other finishers were Tyler De- Coursey (76, 20:01), Dylan Charles (80, 20:04), Shane Woodhull (84, 20:17, Quintin McCormick (101, 21:43), Ethan Mann (122, 23:53) and Kenny Gerard (123, 23:53). Coach Randy Graham said, "The Charger cross county teams had a great showing on Saturday at the PC Invitational at Prides Creek. Thir- teen Chargers ran season best or career best PRs. The girls team put two on the podium with Xaver y Weis- man first with an 18:44 career best and new Pike Central school record. Anna Whitehead ran a 20:33 career best to 10th place and the team put four runners in the top 34 spots, which led to a terrific fourth place The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, September 28, 2022 B-1 Boys soccer beats Gibson Southern 2-1 By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's boys soccer team picked up a big win last week, knocking off Gibson Southern 2-1 on the road. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. "First half we had the wind against us which made it dif- ficult, but the back four de- fended really well and Peyton Howald made a couple of good saves to keep it 0-0 going into halftime," said Charger coach David Hay.
