A-8 Wednesday, September 28, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Resisting results in several charges for Cross By James Capozella Press-Dispatch News news@pressdispatch.net A Fransisco man who ran from police ended up with seven charges after being lo- cated in a camper where he lived on Dave and Teresa Cul- livan's proper ty at 4668N CR 775E, Fransisco. Cody Cross was charged with resisting law enforce- ment with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, false informing and possession of methamphetamine, marijua- na and paraphernalia. Deputy Sherif f Briar Meadors had attempted a traffic stop on a 2010 Hyund- ai Santa Fe for failure to stop at CR 150N and SR 65. Cross sped away from Meadows on CR 50N to south CR 850W and eventually back onto 850W where he nearly struck a man who was near the in- tersection, according to the repor t. It was later learned that who Deputy Meadors saw run from the path of the Sant- Fe was Gregor y Armstrong. He was working in his yard at about 8:30 p.m. when he thought he was going to be hit by the vehicle and ran from the danger, according to the repor t. Deputy Meadors terminat- ed the pursuit when the high rate of speed created dust that blocked vision. Meadors, Sherif f Kent Johnson, Sgt. Jared Simmons and deputies Jason McKinney and Peters- burg Assistant Chief Chad McClellan all went to 7120 W CR 150N where the ve- hicle was registered. Mrs. Perr y told officers that the registered owner of the Santa Fe was deceased and it was willed to Cody Cross. Mr. Perr y told officers that Cody Cross lived in a camper on Dave and Teresa Cullivan's proper ty. Mrs Perr y said she had seen Cross driving the Santa Fe recently, according to the repor t. Mr. Cullivan said he had seen Cross drive the Santa Fe that day. After consent was given to search the proper ty, the San- ta Fe was found concealed in the back pasture near the woods. Cody Cross told Deputy Meadors that he had been home almost all day and didn't know anything about the vehicle. Asked if he had inherited the vehicle he said he sold it a few months ago to someone in Evansville but he didn't know their name. When confronted with the fact that deputies found the vehicle and that the Cullvans saw him driving it, he re- quested to speak to a lawyer. After being transpor ted to the Pike County Jail, an in- ventor y of the towed Santa Fe revealed marijuana in three places inside the vehicle. Hit-and-run crash results in warrant for King By James Capoxella Press-Dispatch News news@pressdispatch.net A call to dispatch relating a crash into a garage of f SR 64 resulted in a warrant issued for Roy Shane King, 8100 S SR 257, Stendal, for criminal mischief more than $750 and leaving the scene of an acci- dent. The September 20 inci- dent was reported by Sheila Nowark and investigated by Pike County Sheriff Deputies Briar Meadors and Clint Bo- ger. After a talking to Nowark, who witnessed the damage to the garage, deputies drove to King's residence in Stendal and also patrolled the area but did not locate King or the 2006 Chevy truck Nowark saw leave the scene. K i n g had re- cent vi- olations of his b o n d c o n d i - t i o n s and pro- b a t i o n v i o l a - tions and was a risk to the pub- lic's safety according to the report by Deputy Meadors. Meadors requested a bond in- crease due to King's frequent histor y to re-violate his proba- tion. Humbarger arrested on 10 charges and a Knox County felony warrant By James Capozella Press-Dispatch News news@pressdispatch.net A vehicle fleeing a traffic stop made by Sheriff Deputy Clint Boger ended with a ve- hicle crash and foot chase on CR 400S last Monday evening, September 19. Kyle Shane Humbarger, 38, 135 N 8th St. Vincennes, was driving a 2013 Chevy in Winslow when he ran from deputy Boger after giving a false name and telling John Horton to get out of the vehicle. Humbarger drove south on SR 61, into a yard just South of CR 400S and then went east on 400S disregarding stop signs at 300E and 350 E. Humbarger was traveling at a high rate of speed when the roadway turned into grav- el, according to the report. He struck an embankment and a tree, setting off airbags so when Deputy Boger ap- proached he could not see him. Humbarger exited the passenger side and took off on foot, headed east on CR 400S but when he ran up an em- bankment Boger caught up and took him to the ground. Their heads collided as Hum- barger went to the ground. Deputy Brian Meadors as- sisted in handcuffing Hum- barger. Humbarger told dep- uties that he had an active felony warrant out of Knox County and said he ran be- cause of that instead of illegal substances in the car. Humbarger requested an ambulance due to head, rib and back pain and then be- came apologetic according to the report. He told Deputy Meadors that there was her- oin in the vehicle along with syringes. Humbarger was checked by EMS and transported to Vincennes Good Samaritan and medically cleared. Deputy Boger had swelling on the right side of his face and a number of cuts that were bleeding on his arms. He was released by medical staff. Officers found numerous containers of methamphet- amine, and narcotics that could not be tested because Humbarger said he was un- sure if anything was mixed with fentanyl. Buprenophine and Naloxone, cocaine, mar- ijuana and Loperamide Hy- drochloride was found in the vehicle. Humbarger was charged with resisting law enforce- ment, batter y to a public safe- ty official, false informing, unlawful possession of a sy- ringe, possession of metham- phetamine less than 10 grams, possession of a narcotic, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, driving while suspended and criminal reck- lessness.
