The boys team was without Blaine Barnett, but saw sever- al season or career best times as they finished in a solid ninth place. Junior Jeremy Delobel led the boys in 34th and 18:01 and he was followed by senior Dallas Reutepohler in 44th in 18:39. After the meet the teams celebrated their three seniors: Peyton Chanley, Dallas Reu- tepohler and Kennedy Willis. The team will compete next at the Pocket Athletic Confer- ence championship on Octo- ber 1 at Gibson Southern High School. "Our boys have been bat- tling injuries on and off all year, and ran without Blaine today but we had one almost break 18:00 and another mid- 18. We saw a couple in the 19s for their first time ever and several others are right on the door. We continue to show im- provement and keep battling through adversity. It was a solid finish for the boys today in a ver y competitive field. We like how they are battling and improving each week. We are pretty excited about this group." "Our girls were rock solid today. They beat some teams that they haven't beaten all year. We are ver y happy for Xaver y with her new course record and also for Anna run- ning a big race and making the podium and for ever yone else running season best times on our course." "We had some big races out of all of them today. It was a team effort that got them into the top four today. It's this kind of effort that could move them along in the tournament." Charger volleyball beats S. Spencer, loses to Rivet By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's volleyball team picked up their 12th win of the season against South Spencer in three straight games. On Tuesday they lost to Vincennes Rivet in three games, which were all decid- ed by three points or less. The Chargers beat South Spencer handily, winning 25- 16, 25-15 and 25-12. Liberty Taylor had nine kills, one assist and three digs, while Karley Kavanaugh had 29 as- sists, one kill and eight digs. "The team played great. We had awesome ser ving, hitting and amazing defense," said Charger Coach Stephanie Shedd. On Thursday, Pike Central lost 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23 to Vincennes Rivet as the Char- gers got close, but couldn't get over the hump. The Chargers had a bal- anced attack as Krieg had eight kills, Shoultz seven and Lakin Sorgius six. Shoultz led the Chargers with 30 digs. Onyett had 19. Kavanaugh had 16 assists in the three games. "Just a close game the en- tire time. Our team ser ved ver y well and played well, too. Rivet had two really good front row players who could hit and place the ball in our openings. We just couldn't get on a big enough run to pull ahead," said Shedd. She added, "The team is coming along and improving each match. We are in a great place just a few weeks before sectionals."
