Powell, who lost by a 3-0 decision, would go on to place third and qualify for advancement to the re- gional tournament. Goeppner lost by a 13-5 ma- jor decision to place sixth. Ed Ca- hill photo patch with injuries, but real- ly responded well and made the best of bad situations and did well." Pike Central, Hewig noted, had to forfeit in three weight classes – 160, 182 and 195 – af- ter the Chargers' 195 -pound- er, senior Christian Alvey, to- re the ACL in his left knee during practice on Thursday, Jan. 25. "It was unfortunate," Hewig said of Alvey, who was 28 - 4 this season. "For sure, he had a great chance that day. He has been battling injuries for the whole season. It seems that this last one was just too much to overcome. He is an amazing kid and wrestler and I hated to see how it ended in his senior season. I will give him all the credit in the world, though. He tried to push through all of it. It should not diminish what he did this sea- son. He did terrific." As a team, Pike Central scored 162 points, trailing Floyd Central (245.5 points), Southridge (222) and New Al- bany (177). Jasper was fifth with 142 points, followed by North Knox (116), Bedford New Lawrence (63.5), Mitch- ell (41) and Forest Park (40). Hewig noted that Pike Cen- tral's fourth-place finish was the first time in the program's history that it had placed high- er than Jasper. "We had a pretty good day Saturday," Hewig said. "I was really proud how we stepped up and fought all day."
