Pike Central will host Evansville Bosse and Evans- ville Central in a boys-only meet on Wednesday, Feb. 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. may have been down, they were not quite out, as senior Manning Webb – after being held scoreless during the first half – broke loose for 13 points during the third quar- ter as South Spencer closed to within 46 -35. The Rebels would keep chipping away at Pike Cen- tral's lead, outscoring the Chargers 7-2 at the start of the fourth period to pull to within six points – at 48 -42 – with 5:21 remaining in the contest. "I'd seen them too ma- ny times to know they were going to start hitting some shots," said Elliott of South Spencer, which made 11 of its first 17 field goal attempts of the second half. "They shoot the ball too well. They started hitting and we start- ed missing, and that kind of led to them coming back in- to the game a little bit." Pike Central proved equal to the challenge, however, scoring six straight points – on baskets by Henson, Nal- ley and Booker – to extend its lead to 54-42 with 2:51 re- maining. A basket by Taylor and a three-pointer by Webb pulled South Spencer to within 54-47 with 2:23 left before Nalley hit two free throws to give the Chargers a 56 -47 lead with 1:38 to play. A fter Taylor hit a free throw with 1:31 left to pull the Rebels to within 56 -48, Pike Central scored nine un- answered points – seven by Nalley and two by Henson – to win the game going away. "I wasn't sitting back easy in my chair, for sure," Elliott said. "I was very nervous but, at the same time, I have faith in our guys. We just had to execute. We just had to come down, be aggressive, take the shots we wanted to get, and that's what we start- ed doing. They kind of had to start fouling us and we stepped up to the free throw line and hit our free throws tonight." Elliott noted that a key play late in the came oc- curred when Booker – with the Chargers leading 58 -48 – drew an offensive foul from Taylor with 1:20 remaining. "I knew (Taylor) was real- ly going to come down and just try to drive and kick or drive and make something happen," Elliott said. "Book- er stepped up and took a re- ally big charge there that kind of got the ball back for us. We made some defensive plays and hit the free throws down the stretch, and that's what it takes to win these tough games." Nalley, after being held to just two points in the first half, added 18 in the second half to finish with a team- high 20 points. He also led the Chargers with game- high totals in rebounds (10) and assists (5). Henson ended up with 16 points while Tormohlen fin- ished the contest with 15 points. Booker also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points while grab- bing seven rebounds. For the game, Pike Cen- tral made 23 of 41 field goal attempts – a 56.1 percent av- erage – and hit 12 of 15 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over seven times. Taylor paced South Spen- cer (5 -10 overall, 1-5 in the PAC) with 20 points and five rebounds. Webb added 16 points for the Rebels. For the game, South Spen- cer made 17 of 40 field goal attempts – a 42.5 percent av- erage – and hit eight of 13 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over six times. "This three-game stretch was really important to us," Elliott said. "We wanted to get back to .500. We knew it was a home stretch, and we know Barr-Reeve is com- ing right after this. We're on to the next three, and we know tomorrow night's go- ing to be a tough task, and we're going to have to come out ready to go." • • • In the junior varsity con- test, sophomore Noah Whann scored a game-high 19 points and junior Andrew Krieg added 15 points to lead Pike Central to a 61-20 victory over South Spencer. Sophomore Matthew Smith paced the Rebels with eight points. IHSAA Yearbooks, Handbooks now available on IHSAA.org The Indiana High School Athletic Asso- ciation Yearbooks and Handbooks, annual pub- lications containing the state tournament results in each sport dating back to the earliest years of the Association, are now avail- able to the public on IH- SA A.org. The IHSA A published the books for 98 consec- utive years and mailed them to member schools and public libraries throughout the state for decades. With the arriv- al of the IHSA A.org web- site in the late 1990s, the IHSA A ceased publish- ing the yearbook follow- ing the 2000 -01 school year, opting to post state tournament results on its website. Each edition, beginning with the Association's first year in 1903-04, has now been scanned as a search- able PDF file and arranged by decade, allowing in- dividuals to research In- diana high school sports history. Membership lists, Association rules, by-laws and Board meeting min- utes were also included in copies through the 1974- 75 edition before they be- came a separate publica- tion. The file sizes range from 8 MB to as much a 63 MB so some may take additional time to down- load. The new webpage may be accessed by hov- ering over the "Resourc- es" items at the top right corner of the IHSA A. org webpage and choos- ing "IHSA A Yearbooks and Handbooks" from the dropdown menu, or by using this direct link: http://www.ihsaa.org/ dnn/Resources/IHSA A- YearsbooksHandbooks/ tabid/2087/Default.aspx.
