During the 30 -second ulti- mate overtime period, Kram- er – who chose to start in the down position – was unable to escape, giving Goff the one- point victory. "Who ever goes on bot- tom has to get out," Chargers head coach Billy Hewig said. "If he does not, he loses, so Silas held him down and got the win." Hewig, however, initially thought that the official had awarded the match to Kram- er and began to storm toward the scorer's table before as- sistant coach Dustin Powell pointed out that Goff – who improved to 34-2 – had actu- ally received the point. "I got excited because I thought he held up the wrong hand," Hewig said. "That is the longest 30 seconds of the top wrestler's life – and maybe for his coaches as well." Goff, who defeated Kram- er for the third time this sea- son while advancing to the re- gional for the second straight year, "had a great day." "He won against who is be- coming his arch nemesis from Southridge, but he did really well," Hewig said. "He is con- tinuing to push the pace and get better." Jones, competing in the 126 -pound weight class, re- ceived a first-round bye, won by pin – in 1:13 – over Jasper sophomore Chase Mehringer in the quarterfinals and won by pin – in 3:36 – over South- ridge junior Patrick Sander in the semifinals before win- ning by pin – in 1:24 – over New Albany freshman Jor- dan Roberson in the champi- onship match. Jones, who is advancing to the regional meet for the sec- ond straight year, improved to 33-2 while winning his first-ever sectional title. "Dylan had a great day, pin- ning his way through section- al and advancing to regional," Hewig said. "He was injured but pushed through and dom- inated the field." Sisk, competing in the 220 -pound weight class, re- ceived a first-round bye be- fore winning by pin over Jas- per junior Jimmy Early – in 1:37 – and winning by pin over Floyd Central sophomore Se- an Burk – in 2:27 – to advance to the championship match, winning his first-ever section- al title with a win by pin – in 2:45 – over Southridge senior Mitchell Carter. Sisk, who is advancing to the regional meet for the third straight year, improved to 33-3. "Jake pushed the pace in every match and was nev- er challenged," Hewig said. "We know regional will be much harder, but he looked great in every match. I am re- ally happy with his day." Four other Chargers – se- nior Gavin Boyd, junior Ran- dy Powell, sophomore Dalton Williams and freshman Lane Miller – also qualified to ad- vance to the regional meet, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at Bloomington South. Boyd, competing in the 170 -pound weight class, re- ceived byes in both the first round and the quarterfinals before defeating Bedford North Lawrence senior Coo- per Smith by a 14-5 major de- cision in the semifinals. A fter dropping a 5 -3 loss to Jasper junior Zachary Fly- nn in the semifinals, Boyd defeated Southridge senior Austin Kane by an 8 -5 deci- sion to advance to the con- solation bracket final, where he dropped a 3-2 decision to Floyd Central senior Devon Stikes to place fourth. "Gavin had the toughest weight class by far on Satur- day," Hewig said of Boyd (25 - 11), who is advancing to the regional meet for the second straight year. "Getting out of this sectional was no easy task but he wrestled great and went into triple overtime with a great wrestler from Floyd Central. All in all, he had a good day." Powell, competing in the 132-pound weight class, re- ceived a first-round bye, de- feated Jasper freshman Cam- eron Weisheit by a 4-3 deci- sion in the quarterfinals be- fore dropping a 3-0 decision to Floyd Central sophomore Max Meyer in the semifinals. A fter receiving a win by forfeit in the semifinals of the consolation bracket, Pow- ell won by pin – in 1:29 – over North Knox sophomore Caleb Wise to place third. Powell, who is advancing to the regional meet for the first time, improved to 17-11. Williams, competing in the 106 -pound weight class, re- ceived a first-round bye, then won by pin – in 31 seconds – over Mitchell freshman Wy- att Woolston before dropping a 10 -4 decision to Forest Park sophomore Isaac Brosmer in the semifinals. A fter defeating North Knox senior Lilly Gough by pin – in 26 seconds – in the semifi- nals of the consolation brack- et, Williams won by pin – in 18 seconds – over Woolston to place third. Williams, who will be mak- ing his first trip to the region- al tournament, improved to 29 -8. "Dalton earned third place," Hewig said. "He worked hard during his matches and pinned three op- ponents on the day. He real- ly controlled the pace in all of his matches. He just got into a bad position against (Bros- mer) that cost him the match. But, other than that mistake, he did well all day." Miller, competing in the 120 -pound division, received a first-round bye before drop- ping a loss by an 8 -5 deci- sion to Southridge freshman Gavin Duncan in the quarter- finals. Miller than won by fall – in 39 seconds – over North Knox junior Tali Boyles and won by fall – in 3:57 – over Forest Park freshman Travis Haug to advance to the consolation bracket final, where he lost by pin – in 4:54 – to Duncan to place fourth. "Lane earns a trip to re- gional as a freshman," Hewig said of Miller, who improved to 22-12. "He was so close in the fourth match of the day. He had a great day avenging a loss to Forest Park." Only the top four finishers in each weight class qualify to advance to the regional com- petition. The seven Chargers ad- vancing to the regional com- petition this year are the most since 2010, when the same number – seven – also ad- vanced. "I'm always happy with three champions and sev- en going to regional," Hewig said.
