District 63 and US Senate Candidate Marion woman arrested on battery charge in plot to see her boyfriend in jail By Andy Heuring A Marion woman staying in Petersburg was arrested for battery after attacking three girls so she could go to jail and see her boyfriend. Police say it was a plot to get arrested so she could see her boyfriend, who had re- cently been arrested after at- tempting to flee a break-in on a lawnmower and two weeks later attempting to escape from jail. Heather Dunica, 22, of Marion, was arrested after three girls went to the Sher- iff's Department to report being attacked. The three juvenile girls said they were walking from the Fish Hut in Petersburg toward the Old Petersburg Gym when a wom- an from a white house with a balcony came outside and started cursing at them, and then the woman pushed one of them and slapped another. Petersburg Police Cpl. Kyle Mills said the girls said they didn't know her and had no idea why she attacked them. They described the woman as wearing sweat pants, a camo hooded sweatshirt and Croc shoes. Mills said he went to the residence and knocked on the door and spoke to an el- derly woman. Mills asked if there was another person in the house. He said a few min- utes later, Dunica walked out onto the porch. She was wear- ing blue sweatpants, a hood- ed Camo sweatshirt and Croc shoes. Mills said when he told Du- nica he was there investigat- ing a battery complaint, she replied, "Well, I didn't slap anyone." Mills told Dunica he hadn't said anything about slapping and asked her why she bring it up. He said Dunica then got nervous. She eventually said she couldn't remember if she had pushed or slapped any- one, but she wasn't denying it. Cpl. Mills said when he started checking with central dispatch about her ID, she started complaining about her boyfriend, Aron Albrecht, being in jail. Mills said when he re- turned to the jail, a jailer told him last week they heard Al- brecht talking to Dunica on the phone about her getting arrested so they could see each other. Mills said he reviewed tapes of phone calls and heard them talking about her getting arrested. According to the transcripts, Albrecht at one point told her "just go to the gas station and hit some- body." He also instructed her not do anything crazy after she got arrested. "Seriously, don't, because then you will go into the padded cell and that won't be close to me." Dunica responded, "I'll be there, don't you worry." She was arrested on three charges, one count of battery resulting in bodily injury to a person less than 14 years of age, a level 5 felony, one count of battery resulting in bodily injury and one count of bat- tery. Albrecht was arrested on the same charges. Pair arrested on interstate early Monday morning By James Capozella Pike County Sheriff Dep- uty Jason McKinney arrest- ed George Bullington, of Evansville, for unlawful pos- session of a handgun and al- so on an Evansville warrant after a routine traffic stop on Monday, September 11 at 12:43 a.m. on I-69. A pas- senger, Steven E. Pace, of Evansville, was arrested for possession of marijuana. McKinney and reserve officer Travis Troutman stopped a Chevrolet that was clocked at 82 mph in a 70 mph speed zone. A .38 special Cobra der- ringer was recovered from the front seat when Trout- man advised McKinney that he noticed Pace tuck some- thing between the passen- ger seat and the middle console. A fter being hand- cuffed, Bullington stated he had a handgun in the cen- ter console when asked by McKinney if there was any- thing illegal in the car. Bul- lington stated he had just bought the gun and did not have a handgun permit. The derringer was secured and found to be unloaded. When Petersburg Officer Corporal Jared Simmons was assisting with a juvenile also in the vehicle, the odor of raw marijuana was detect- ed. Pace was handcuffed af- ter officers found a small baggie containing marijua- na. Both adults were trans- ported to the Pike County jail and the juvenile was giv- en a courtesy ride to the of- fice to wait on his mother to pick him up. Jones injured in motorcycle crash An Oakland City man was injured Tuesday evening at about 5:30 p.m. when he ran off of CR800S while riding his 1989 Harley Davidson about one mile east of Highway 61. First responders located him lying near a tombstone in the cemetery by New Liberty Church. State Trooper John Davis said Jer- ry Jones, 51, had fled the scene but only made it about 400 yards from his motorcycle. He complained of pain and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Trooper Davis said Jones was suspended with a prior conviction. The accident remains under investigation.
