The Press-Dispatch Sports Wednesday, September 13, 2017 B- 7 PCMS 7th grade volleyball team improves to 2-3 with back-to-back wins The Pike Central Middle School seventh grade vol- leyball team improved to 2-3 with a 25 -10, 25 -16 win over host South Spencer on Thursday, Sept. 7. Ashlyn Shoultz dished out seven ace serves while Del- aney Welch added six more. Shoultz also had a team-high three kills and Welch led the Lady Chargers with 10 set-assists. In addition, Tessa Vinnedge had four ace serves while Liberty Taylor paced Pike Central in digs with six. Shoultz and Payton Readle both had two digs. In the eighth grade match, the host Lady Rebels defeat- ed Pike Central in straight sets, 25 -16, 25 -17. Mallory Hunt and Kya Leighty led the Lady Char- gers (0 -4) with four points each – Hunt had two ace serves, one kill and one block while Leighty had two ace serves and two kills – while Madison Riley had a team-high four set-assists. Addie Faulk had a team- high four digs while Riley and Alaina McClellan add- ed two digs each. On Tuesday, Sept. 5, Rea- gan Craig and Ashlyn Shoul- tz both dealt out four ace serves to lead the Pike Cen- tral Middle School seventh grade volleyball team to a 25 -16, 25 -18 victory over vis- iting South Knox. Shoultz al- so had a team-high two kills and four digs. Liberty Taylor added two ace serves and one kill. Em- ily Craig led the Lady Char- gers with two set-assists. In the eighth grade con- test, the Lady Spartans defeated Pike Central in straight sets, 25 -13, 25 -20. Mallory Hunt had two kills and one ace serve, Hal- lie Bailey and Madison Riley both had one ace serve and one kill, and Maddie Lamey had a team-high two kills. Riley also dished out a team- high seven set-assists while Bailey, Ashton Catt and Kya Leighty had three digs each. On Tuesday, Aug. 29, Ash- lynn Shoultz scored a team- high nine points – on six ace serves and three kills – as the seventh grade squad dropped a three-set loss to visiting Washington. Tessa Vinnedge add- ed five points – on four ace serves and one kill – while Liberty Taylor added two points with one ace serve and one kill. Emily Krieg and Delaney Welch both had one set-as- sist while Reagan Craig led the Lady Chargers in digs with three. Shoultz and Tay- lor added two digs each. In the eighth grade con- test, the visiting Lady Hatch- ets posted a straight-set 25 - 17, 25 -17 victory over Pike Central. Kya Leighty had one ace serve and one kill while Mallory Hunt and Erika Vinnedge both had two kills. Lamey and Catt dished out one ace serve each and Mad- ison Riley had a team-high two set-assists. Leighty led the Lady Chargers in digs with six while Hunt, Jaize Mills and Abby Skelton had three digs apiece. Pike Central, which trav- eled to Barr-Reeve on Mon- day, Sept. 11, and hosted Te- cumseh on Tuesday, Sept. 12, will visit North Posey on Thursday, Sept. 14. you can learn a lot from the Newspaper!
