The race marked the third straight outing that Huff – whose time was 29 seconds behind South Knox senior Zach Kirchoff's first-place time of 17:02 – has posted a personal record time. On Thursday, Aug. 31, Huff posted a personal record time of 17:58 to finish 12th in the junior/senior division of the Alan Hopewell Invitational at Gibson Southern, 63 seconds behind Kirchoff, who placed sixth with a time of 16:53. "When evaluating things, I felt like we would gain more from a mental break enter- ing our halfway point than we would lose physically from the break," Roach said. "Racing is the best condi- tion we can have because it is a lot easier to push during a race than it is during prac- tice. It was a good kickoff to the week."
