Charger cross country team posts 8 best times at Hopewell Invite By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central had eight of runners post personal best times during the Alan Hopewell Invitational at Gib- son Southern High School last Thursday. "We were missing a few runners in this one, but we were ver y pleased with the results. We had eight athletes run season personal records," said Charger Coach Randy Graham. The meet has two races for boys and girls, each with a freshman/sophomore race and a junior/senior race. No team scores were calculated at the meet. Junior Anna Whitehead was one of those with a per- sonal best. She ran a 20:49, which was good enough for sixth place in the junior se- nior race. She was the only Charger in that race. In the girls fresh- man/sophomore race, Kaylyn Warner ran a 23:31, her per- sonal best time to place 12th. Kylee Weathers ran a 28:49 and finished 39th. On the boys side in the junior/senior race, Jeremy Delobel placed 18th with his personal best time of 18:35, Peyton Chanley ran a 19:14 to place 26th, Dallas Reute- pohler was three seconds back for his personal best to finish 28th. Other finishers in this race for PC were Dylan Charles in 50th at 21:22 and Shane Wood- hull in 54th at 21:32. In the freshman/sopho- more race, Car ter Blackwell led the way for Pike Central with a 24th place finish in 20:23 a personal record. Ty- ler DeCoursey finished 33rd in 20:57, also a personal best. Washington won the match 4-1. Sophomores Parker Knust and JJ Belmore won both sets against Washington se- niors Ryan Emmick and Alex Myers 6-4 and 7-6 at number one doubles. Sophomore Eli Arnold playing Washington senior Br ycen Neidigh went to three sets. Arnold won the first set 6-4, then lost the sec- ond set 6-3 and the final set 6-4. In the other singles match- es both Kaden Englert at number two and Ethan Mann at number three lost 6-0, 6-0. In number two doubles the Charge pair of Adon Lemond and Nate Carter fell 6-1 and 6-1. MS girls cross country wins quad meet By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's girls cross countr y team paced by Emily Riker, won a quad meet with Washington, North Daviess and Loogootee. Riker scorched the course for an 11:51, winning the girls race by 52 seconds. Her time was the third best time overall in the coed meet. Pike Central placed five girls in the top seven and six in the top 10. Kylie Mey- er placed four th in 12:57, Audrey Whitehead fifth in 13:11, Eva Cox in sixth at 13:25, Ava Miller in seventh at 12:26 and Jessa Ridao was 10th in 13:40. Other finishers for the Chargers were Kenly Black- well in 16th at 15:12, Ca- leigh Cox in 18th at 15:48, Mia Quer y in 20th at 16:24, Neva Schilling 31st at 16:50, Indiana Hill in 22nd at 16:52 and Alivia Weitkamp 27th in 19:18. Pike Central's team score of 23 won the girls meet with North Daviess coming in second with 34 points, Wash- ington in third with 90 points. Loogootee did not have a team score. Washington wins boys race On the boys side, Washing- ton won the meet with five runners in the top 11. Mason Rathgerber won the meet in 10:43. Pike Central's Taylor Rus- sell was the lead runner for the Charger boys in 10th at 13:40. Conner fields was 12th in 14:28, Jonathon Kohl was 16th in 15:29 and Joey Worley was 20th in 17:06. Pike Central's Taylor Russell, a sixth grader placed 10th in the boys race.
