stopped themselves this time with a fumble near mid-field. South Spencer took over at the 48 and pushed inside the five-yard line, but the Charger defense stepped up forcing two incompletions and a short Rebel field goal making it 17-0 with 3:14 left in the half. Pike Central began the next drive at their own 10 and con- verted a first down before Pey- ton Howald was tackled two yards short of the marker on a fake punt at the 35. The Rebels quickly gained 32 yards to the Charger three-yard line with 25 seconds left. Three straight incompletions forced a field goal attempt. The kick pushed wide right and the score re- mained 17-0 South Spencer. After the second half kick- off, the Chargers turned the ball over on a fumble on the second play, but South Spen- cer fumbled the ball right back to the Chargers on the next play. Sophomore Trinten Richardson recovered the ball at the Charger 35. The ensuing Charger drive was all Braden Howald. A 50-yard dash on first down pushed the ball inside the red zone. Three plays later, How- ald punched it in the end zone from 10-yards out. Howald rushed four times on the drive for 65 yards. Peyton How- ald added the PAT to get the Chargers to within 10 points at 17-7. South Spencer quickly an- swered the Charger score. The Rebels returned the kick to mid-field. Five plays later, Kinney scored his second touchdown of the night on a 33-yard reception. The Rebels kick was good to stretch the lead to 24-7 mid-way through the third quarter 24 to 7. On the next drive the Char- gers gained a first down on a pass interference call on thirrd and 15, but once again turned the ball over on a fum- ble two plays later. The Rebels took over at the Charger 27. A sack by Isaac Marchino and a couple of Reb- el penalties stalled the drive. PC got the ball back at its 23, but, fumbled again on the first play. The Charger de- fense hung tough as an incom- pletion, tackle for a loss and a penalty resulted in another Rebel missed field goal. As the fourth quarter began with PC backed up against its own goal line, the Chargers fought back. Meadows hit Boyd on a short pass that the freshmen took 91-yards inside the Reb- el five-yard line. Meadows punched it in from the three yard line to make it 24-13 with 11:30 left. After the teams exchanged three and outs, the Rebels pushed inside the Charger 15 yard line on a clock draining 13-play drive. PC forced an in- completion on third and eight. The field goal was no good, but the Chargers ran out of time. Meadows completed long passes to the Howald brothers to move into the Reb- el red zone as time expired. In the post-game inter view Coach Brashear was positive about the team's overall per- formance, although frustrated with the lost fumbles. "Anyone from the outside would think that we don't even work on ball security at practice, but we work on that ever y sin- gle day. It's just one of those things right now where I don't know if it's in the kids' heads or if we're fumbling a lot of times from extra effort... But if you take away those fumbles I thought our defense was su- perb tonight. I thought offen- sively we did whatever we wanted to do all night."
