Poplar Street, Petersburg Deadline: 5 p.m. on Monday OBITUARIES A-6 Wednesday, September 7, 2022 The Press-Dispatch BRENDA LEE RUSSELL Brenda Lee Russell, 69, of Jasper, passed away at 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2022, at home surrounded by family. She was born in Washing- ton, on December 18, 1952, to Jerr y and Mae (Rhoades) Kinman. She married Larr y Russell on June 1, 1990, in Henderson, Ky. She was a 1970 graduate of Otwell High School, had worked at JOFCO for more than 30 years and was a mem- ber of the V.F.W. Auxiliar y. She and her husband, Larr y, enjoyed volunteering, go- ing around to all the nursing homes singing for the resi- dents. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and socializ- ing at the Habig Center and also enjoyed spending time outdoors, doing yard work, and flower gardening, and spending time with animals. Sur viving are her husband, Larr y Russell, Jasper, four children, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and four brothers. Preceding her in death are her parents. A Celebration of Life grave- site ser vice will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Pleasant Ridge Cemeter y in Petersburg. Rev. Dennis Pat- ton will officiate. FRYE Patricia "Patty" Lou Fr ye, 84, went to be with Jesus at her home on August 31, 2022, with her husband of 44 years, Ed Fr ye, by her side. In the early 70s, she had worked in the family business at the Esarey Lumber Compa- ny in Petersburg while teach- ing Girls in Action classes at the Shoals Baptist Church in Shoals. Through the years she had been an active member of the Petersburg sorority, Psi Iota Xi, she taught children the Bible at the Gospel Center Church, in Petersburg, and was currently an active mem- ber of the Immanuel Baptist Church, in Petersburg. In 1987, she began working at the Jasper Memorial Hospi- tal where she continued for 15 years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed taking care of her flowers and vegetable garden at home when not en- joying time with their Florida friends during the winter and traveling with her husband to see new places. She is sur vived by her be- loved husband, Ed Fr ye; her son, Joe Esarey; her brother, Kenny Miller, of Oakland City; her grandchildren, Daniel (Hanna) Esarey, Hannah Es- arey and David Esarey; her great-grandchildren, Eli, DeL- aney and Noah; her wonderful nephews. She is also sur vived by the wonderful children of her beloved husband, Wen- dy (Tamer) Adams, Jennifer (Kenny) Pinkstaff, and Kenny Fr ye; along with their beauti- ful children, Br yce Fr ye, Ash- ley (Adam) Barmes, Morgan (Rich) Phillips, Kenny (Paige) Pinkstaff, Paige (Lee) Mey- ers; and their eight grandchil- dren. Preceding her in death are parents, Aaron and Dic- ie Miller; her first husband, Jim Esarey; sisters, Glenda Prusiecki, Nancy Wright, Jeri Channel and Norma Lewis; and brothers, Paul "Butch" Miller and Charlie Miller. A ser vice to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. EST on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at the Harris Funeral Home, with Joe Esarey officiating. Burial will be at the Walnut Hills Cemeter y, in Petersburg. A time of visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. EST on Wednes- day, and one hour before the ser vice on Thursday. In lieu of flowers the fam- ily has asked that donations please be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and can be mailed to 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105- 9959. Harris Funeral Home is en- trusted with her care. VICTOR D. "VIC" MAIKR ANZ Victor Dar vin "Vic" Maikranz, 87, of Mackey, en- tered into rest on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Linda E. White Hospice Center in Evansville, with his loving family by his side. Vic was born on Decem- ber 22, 1934, to the late Vic- tor B. and Hilda F. (Martin) Maikranz. Vic or Dar vin, depending on what side of the county you were on, worked ver y hard all his life. He worked two jobs most of the time. He retired from Whirlpool in 1997 and was a member of the Local 808 Union. He loved riding motorcy- cles, farming, camping, gar- dening, and spending time with his friends drinking his Sterling Beer. He was a mem- ber of the American Legion Post #115 and Eagles 2646. He is sur vived by his chil- dren, Donna Nichols, Mike (Linda Barker) Maikranz, Tony Maikranz, and Tara (Wayne) Buck; four grandchil- dren; seven great-grandchil- dren; and beagle, Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents; his late wife of 32 years, Helen M. (Car- ter) Maikranz; brothers, Ken- neth Maikranz, Bill (Marion) Maikranz, and Bob Maikranz; sisters, Mara Lou (James) Williams, Lois (Henr y) Mor- gan; and special companions, Fonnie Young and Linda Mc- Cammon. Burial was at Provi- dence Cemeter y in Francisco, following the ser vice. Funeral ser vices was at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Lamb-Basham Memo- rial Chapel, in Oakland City, with Kristi Pflug officiating at the funeral home and Pastor Steve Adler at the cemeter y. GOWEN Christopher Alan Gowen, 48, of Evansville, entered into rest on Thursday, August 31, 2022, in Evansville, unexpect- edly. Chris was born on August 29, 1974, to the late Joe and Peggy (Burnette) Gowen. He was a 1992 graduate of Pike Central High School and attended Indiana Uni- versity, in Bloomington, and Oakland City College, in Oakland City. In his working life, he worked as a contract laborer in Manufacturing. He loved riding motorcycles, playing billiards (pool), played the trumpet and really could play any instrument he lay his hands on. He was a huge fan of music and Jimmy Buffet. The Office was his favorite TV show. He also liked Shrek, the Indianapolis Colts, and Notre Dame Football. He is sur vived by his chil- dren, Ethan (Paige) and Mad- ison Gowen; sister, Suzzanne (Gar y) Gordon; uncles, Jack (Sharon) Gowen, Bill (Pam) Gowen, and Barr y (Jeannie) Burnette; along with several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Bob and Dorothy Burnette and Raymond and Annabelle Gowen; and his aunt and un- cle, Jeannie and Dave. A Celebration of Life was at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Septem- ber 3, 2022, at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel, in Oakland City, with Pastor Jack Gowen officiating. LambBasham.com LORENE R. OGLESBY Lorene Ruth Oglesby, 86, of Pearland, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She was born November 3, 1935, in Petersburg. She was a Godly wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Leo were faithful members of Tallowood Baptist Church for 30 years. She is sur vived by her daughter, Ginny (Joe) Ir win; granddaughters and their families; and her siblings: Joyce Randall, Mar y Kenshol, Charles Myers and Betty Mos- by. "BETH" BARBER Mar y Elizabeth "Beth" Bar- ber, 66, of L ynnville, former First Lady of Oakland City University, passed away Tues- day, August 30, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. Beth was born June 27, 1956, in Dexter, Missouri to the late Glenn Caudel and Mar y (Dugger) Caudel. She moved from Oakland City to the L ynnville area in 2018. She was a member of the Spurgeon General Baptist Church and participated in many bible studies. She en- joyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was fond of decorating for Christmas especially her Christmas tree and liked to spend time creat- ing beautiful flower arrange- ments for loved ones graves at cemeteries. She was loved and will be missed. On August 1, 1983, she was hired by Oakland City Uni- versity as Bookkeeper and Computer Operator. She held multiple titles there. She com- pleted her ser vice to the Uni- versity as a special consultant from June to December 2018. She is sur vived by her hus- band of 49 years, Rev. Dr. Ray G. Barber, the former Presi- dent of Oakland City Univer- sity; daughter, Charity (Chad) Julian, of L ynnville; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; three broth- ers; and a special nephew. A funeral ser vice was at 11 a.m., Saturday, Septem- ber 3, 2022, at North Friend- ship General Baptist Church, 2244 W. St. Rd. 68, L ynnville, Ind., officiated by Rev. Marc Grimes and Rev. Dr. Danny Dunivan. Interment followed at Spurgeon Cemeter y, in Spurgeon. Visiting hours were from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, at the church, and again Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until time of ser vice.
