Pair arrested for hardware theft By James Capozella Press-Dispatch News news@pressdispatch.net A man and a woman from Bridgepor t, Il. were arrested for theft of paint from Petersburg Hard- ware this past Wednesday evening by deputies and Petersburg Police Chief Kyle Mills. Mills was able to stop the tr uck identified in the video and detain Na- than Odell, 33, RR1 Box 281A, Bridgepor t, Il. and Jerri Wheatley. Pike County Sherif f Deputy Buck Seger made the arrest after video sup- plied by Eric Smith showed Wheatley picking up a can of purple spray paint and then later giving it to Odell who then put the can in his pocket. A parking lot video iden- tified the couple's vehicle and Mills was aler ted and initiated a traf fic stop on SR 61. Seger retrieved K9 Bleck and conducted a free air snif f, indicating nar- cotics odor on the driver's door near the door han- dle. Odell initially denied taking the spray paint but then admitted he stole the can after Seger told him he had viewed the incident on store video. The spray can was locat- ed in the center console but no other items were found according to the re- por t. Odell admitted having smoked marijuana earli- er in the day, likely caus- ing the dr ug indication. Central dispatch advised Wheatley had an active ar- rest warrant out of Knox County. Both Wheatley and Odell were charged with theft less than $750 and transpor ted to the Pike County Jail.
