The Patoka River in Winslow is low and the .6 inches of rain will not make it rise. All around us on Monday, Aug. 29, was heavy rain and storms of 60 m.p.h. winds . Some areas got most of the rain to cause flooding and some areas like Evansville got no rain at all. We have seen some trees have changed its col- ors to fall or the lack of rain could be the cause. Some trees have their new growth on their limbs. Wild flowers be- side the roadways have blooms of white or yellow flowers. The Wabash Rive is high, but the sandbar is seen. The Big Bayou is high to almost over flow. The mowers have slowed up since the grass hasn't grown any higher until this week of writing and the whole are has the hum of a mower and weedeater. Curbs on Main Street were painted by Alisha. The town workers were busy in the Brownstown part for several days as I saw the service truck, the dump truck and a backhoe pass by, but I don't know what was fixed. The tree that had fallen by the woods is now cut, split and stacked in piles at Steve's, Tim's and our houses. They worked all day to finish the job before darkness settled in. The would like to thank those who told us about this tree. We met another neighbor who is friend- ly and looks out for each other. Our piles of wood has been stacked to fill 1 1/2 big piles for winter warmth. Saws, crow- bars, axes, mulls, a log splitter and four stars all working together to finish this tall tree. I finally saw Norm sit down and rest awhile, but his work pace will still be active. He is feeling fine, but a doctor's visit was needed. We all get to a point of slowing down and know how it affects your body. The George and Laura Meyer 47th Family Reunion was last Sunday, Au- gust 28 at Temple Hills, This year wasn't too friendly on this day because we only had 15 cousins attend. The atmosphere was great as we all caught up on families growing.
