This Sunday we are look- ing at two readings from scripture. The first is from Jeremiah 2:4-13 and the sec- ond is from Luke 14:1-14. In both readings, God chal- lenges us to consider what is truly important. It is so easy to get distracted by what culture says is important, by what the news says is impor- tant, by what our ego says is important. In the reading from Jere- miah, the people are looking for fulfillment in other God's and in Luke the people are fussing over who gets the best seats at a banquet. All God asks is for our gratitude for God's immeas- urable grace which naturally leads us to adoration and ser- vice. Join us this Sunday as we unpack these verses and con- sider how our discipleship is formed by the Word of God! Rob Henson, Pastor Amy Melhiser, Secretary Wesleyan OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Bryant to perform at Gentle Shepherd Church of God this Sunday Jef frey Br yant will be a guest for the Praise and Worship ser vice at Gentle Shepherd Church of God, located at 8350 East 350 Nor th (just west of Oatsville on the Oatsville/Wheeling Road) in Gibson County on Sunday, August 28 at 6 p.m. (CDT). Food and fellowship will follow. Ever yone is wel- come. façade of championing abor- tion as a woman's right to health care lies the dirty truth that companies and health- care providers make millions of dollars providing abortion. Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of abortion. In 2017-2018, it performed 332,757 abortions and only 2,831 adoption referrals. Its revenue was $1.67 billion, of which $563.8 million was taxpayer funding. If it was a for-profit corporation, it would have reported a $245 million profit. Not a bad day's work if you ignore the fact wholesale death is profitable. Nationwide, there were 930,160 abortions in 2020. In Indiana, 8,414 women got abortions in 2021. The World Health Organization reports worldwide there are about 125,000 abortions performed ever y day, and about 40-50 million abortions yearly. Let that number sink in! There is no such thing as a free abortion. Somebody picks up the tab. In the U.S., an abortion pill costs about $500. The cost of an abortion at 10 weeks is about $500. So, 930,160 times $500 is? Oh, my! Indiana abortion providers will lose millions of dollars in easy money. From my Christian per- spective, abortion is blood money. It delivers up the un- born for profit. It also mirrors the ancient child-sacrifice to Molech. Isn't it ironic that Judas delivered up Jesus for profit? He asked the religious authorities, 'What are you will- ing to give me if I deliver Him [Jesus] to you,' Mt 26:15? It disturbs me when I hear Christian religious leaders sup- port abortion—and there are many. Evidently these leaders haven't read 'Psalms 139: 16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were writ- ten, The days fashioned for me, When [as yet there were] none of them.' They must have also missed Jeremiah 1:5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.' The irony is these same leaders advocate 'children matter most.' Yet when asked about the unborn, their reply is 'it's too big for them to han- dle.' Their focus is on children already born. What a bunch of sanctimo- nious hot air. James says a double-minded man is unsta- ble in all their ways. This ap- plies here. Many church leaders have abandoned the scriptures as their standard for all things. John Wesley said, 'Tr y all things by the written word, and let all bow down before it. You are in danger of [fa- naticism] ever y hour, if you depart ever so little from Scripture; yea, or from the plain, literal meaning of a text, taken in connection with the context.' These church lead- ers bow down to the culture instead of Christ. God will not turn a blind eye to those who champion abortion. He hears the cr y of the unborn as someone merci- lessly slaughters them in their mother's womb. Jesus warns those who teach people to sin that he will hold them accountable for their sin. I wouldn't want to answer for the untold millions of babies aborted. How about you? to form a gentle drive into the garage. It is still functional and neater than it was. Our front room windows are ver y tall and they were needing washed desperately. At first I tried use a ladder but ended up using an extension pole and a squeegie. We used a bucket of water and Dawn to wash them and then rinsed them with our garden hose. We then used a solution of apple cider vinegar and water which left our windows with the shine we were looking for. When we did the windows in- side we only used the vinegar mixture and it worked out just fine. We have a 2005 Pontiac Sun Fire and it is a pretty car when- ever it is cleaned up. We tried to use the Dawn mixture on it and it did give it a shine after we washed and dried off the car. A clean car is a happy car or so they say. Someone has said that they like trees, but they don't like their messes. We have been picking up messes since the wind storm a couple months ago. We have been burning what we can in our homemade fire pits. It takes a ittle longer to burn like this but it is safer because you have more con- trol of the fire. I could never forgive myself if I caused any- one's house to catch fire from my burning. Sunday mor ning I went to church and Sunday school at Cup Creek. Our Sun- day school was about our prayer life. If we don't have faith that our prayers will be answered we may not see a result. Prayer results may be seen, but they may not be exactly as you had hoped. God does know your situation better than you so He answers with what you need, not necessar yly what you have wanted. Our new liceniate minister brought the message and did a good job. His message was about not having other gods before us and that our youth need to see our determination and faith. Well this is a good time to remind all of us to be a blessing and our lives to be an inspiration to others. CHURCH Continued from page 7 MIND Continued from page 6 BLOOD Continued from page 6 men, it is because some of them are like King Nebuchadnezzar, who got to the end of his life and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power…?" (Daniel 4:30). Similarly, some aged men look back at their lives and think, "Wasn't I something? Look at all that I accomplished in my life!" But that's not thinking soberly. It's thinking more highly of your- self than you ought. And that's certainly not a fitting way for an aged Christian man to think. Paul also says that aged men should be "temperate," a word that means moderate. It is re- lated to the word temper, of course, a word that we always associate with anger. But anger is what happens when you lose your temper. Your temper is the calm, moderate way in which we are all supposed to look at things without losing our temper. Why would aged men need to be told to be temperate? Well, not all aged men can look back at their lives and think highly of themselves because of what they accomplished. Some look back and get angry that they didn't accomplish more in their lives. If you know any angry old men, that might be why. But Paul says that aged men should be temperate instead. That's because if you're an aged Christian man, you've accom- plished more in life than you think. In speaking of the Judgment Seat of Christ where your Christian life will be judged, Paul wrote, "…judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come… then shall every man have praise of God" (I Corinthians 4:5). When the Lord comes, all be- lievers will have praise of God when their lives are reviewed. So in the meantime, don't be looking back at your life and judging your- self to be a failure, and getting angry about what you think you didn't accomplish in life. Accord- ing to that verse, you have accom- plished a praiseworthy amount of things in the eyes of God, no matter what age you might be. You have His Word on it!
