PRINCETON Looking for a Great Deal On Your Next Vehicle? Habitat for Humanity concludes Race Street build By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Mother, Sarah Weber got something a little more spe- cial than the usual gifts Moth- ers Day week; on Wednesday Habitat for Humanity of Gib- son County turned over the keys to her new home. "I've rented all my life. I'm 51 years old and I've rented long enough," she said. The home isn't free, but it's made much more affordable by do- nated labor from area contrac- tors and volunteers. She and her children have lived an apartments sever- al years, but growing up her mom and dad owned a home, and that was always some- thing she wanted for herself. "I couldn't even explain how much better it is," she said. Her father, Dwayne Weber, was her biggest supporter, he was in the home daily over the whole build and even painted with no air conditioning. Princeton Mayor Greg Wright said Princeton's south- side rose up residentially during an industrial boom that peaked then fell off. "To take these vacant lots and create something as beautiful as all this, and have it serve the need it's going to serve, as far as the city's con- cerned we want to help all that we can," he said. Volunteer builder Larry Mc- Connell presented the Weber family with the key to the home. "I built a lot of nice homes when I was in business for my- self. Custom homes. But I get more pleasure giving keys to these partner families than any home I've ever built." Habitat plans to finish their next build in the 600 block of Prince Street later this year, and is looking for families for next year's homes. Electronic billboard planned on Brummitt By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com No one at the Owensville Town Council meeting protested an electronic billboard to be placed at First and Brummitt streets, so the town council approved the project as long as it follows Indiana Dept. of Transpor- tation specifications for those signs. The sign will be illuminated until be- tween 10 and 11 p.m. each evening. INDOT requires offsets of 60 feet off of Ind. 65, and the rule is 40 feet off a local road. The owner has surveyed, but not yet pur- chased the property; he'll also pay a $10 fee to the town in accordance with the or- dinance. Commissioners table Southern Hills discussion By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Gibson County Commissioners tabled a decision to approve the findings and state- ment of fact on the Southern Hills Cross- ing subdivision in their meeting May 4. At- torney Joe Chappelle gave commissioners the findings. Commissioner Warren Fleetwood said he'd prefer to review the document more and give it more study. "I think everything looks fine," Fleetwood said, adding he just wanted more time.
