Integrity Martial Arts hosts 20th anniversary class By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com On May 2, Integrity Mar- tial Arts hosted its 20th anni- versary class at Red Dawn Ar- mory in Princeton. Instructor Isaac Birch looked back on the 20 years, remembering the first class in May of 2002, when the acade- my offered a few free sample classes in the upstairs of Peg- gys Dance Studio. Seventy-five people showed up. "We thought, 'wow, we must have really tapped into some interest here,'" Since then the academy has had six locations, from part- nering with Julia's Dance to Vincennes University, but now considers Red Dawn Armory to be their home. The academy teaches chil- dren and adults—and now has seen students who were chil- dren grow into professionals. The academy has trained with Navy Seals, a protege of Bruce Li and many police of- ficers. "No one style has every- thing. There's always more to learn," Birch said. The instructors have a vari- ety of backgrounds, and offer classes including Brazilian Ju- jitsu and Filipino Martial Arts with weaponry. "We're family-oriented," said Birch. "Over the years we've seen amazing things happen with kids who are spe- cial needs or on the spectrum, or run of the mill kids like I was, that are, maybe, hyper- active and need a positive fo- cus for their energy. This is a place they can find that." The Titans have been dom- inating in the throwing events this season. They swept the top three positions in both the shot and discus at the coun- ty meet this year. "I think it is pretty special for us to be able to do that," said Kah- le. He added this year they have three throwers who are all throwing better than their number one last year. "And we won a lot of events last year," said Kahle. "I think they have more in the tank," said Kahle of the Ti- tan throwers. STOP it takes 3 MINUTES to subscribe to 812-753-3553 South Gibson
