South Gibson Star-Times Church Tuesday, May 10, 2022 B-9 Little Miracles Pre-School more we focus on that temp- tation, the more tempted we become to believe that we will miss something if we do not yield to whatever is tempting us at the moment. We should understand that God does not allow us to expe- rience temptation so that He may see if we will be obedient to Him. God already knows how we will respond to temp- tation, for nothing, including our deepest secrets, is hid- den from Him. "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give ac- count." (Hebrews 4:13) Temptation does not allow God to know how we will re- act to the fiery darts of Satan but allows us to see how de- voted we are to Him when we must choose between right and wrong. Many times only you and God will know that you have had the spiritual vic- tory over temptation but there is great satisfaction in know- ing that you have obeyed God and chosen His pathway. When we focus on God, He redirects our thinking. He re- minds us that all of life's bat- tles are His and that we can overcome the hardest chal- lenges by simply being obedi- ent to Him. He reminds us that the false promises of tempta- tion can never satisfy and will only leave us empty and our self-esteem lessened. And He reminds us of the cross and His grace that paid our sin debt. "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means!" (Romans 6:1-2) INSIGHT Continued from page 8 his love of God a disservice if I would not speak frankly to you today about suicide. Nick had an illness. He was sick in his mind. As many people are sick in their bodies, Nick was sick in his mind. More ill than you and I will ever know. He struggled against depression and his own shortcomings, for God only knows how long. He took his life. Please don't judge Nick in this tragic act. To automatically condemn Nick or anyone that has com- mitted suicide to a devil's hell is doing Nick and God's love and Word a disservice. We tend to judge people for their acts and behavior, but God judges the hidden issues of the heart! (Psalms 44:21 & Psalm 51). As Christians, we are for- bidden to judge one another (1 Corinthians 4:5 & Luke 6:37 & Romans 14:13). Therefore, if we are forbidden to judge one another, why then are peo- ple so quick to condemn some- one to hell, especially when someone commits a serious moral sin—such as suicide? Humans are quick to con- demn someone to hell, but God isn't. God wants no one to perish, but that all would be saved (2 Peter 3:9). No one on this earth knows Nick's heart any more than he/she knows mine! There- fore, you and I have no li- cense or scriptural authority to judge him. Jesus said that all judgment belongs to him (Romans 2:16 & 2 Timothy 4:1 & John 5:22). If you do not think God's love isn't big enough to forgive Nick for this tragic act of suicide and give him eternal life with Christ Jesus, then you don't under- stand the depths of God's mer- cy and love. Unquote. I got a lot of feedback from my message. Many peo- ple thanked me for my kind words. They found hope. They too had family members who had killed themselves but re- ceived little comfort in their loss. No one had spoken to them about God's love for the mentally ill. A few pastors tried to take me to task for how dare I assert God forgives suicide. I would say I consid- er these people stupid and un- learned, but we should show grace to the unlearned. To tell someone who seems sad or blue to get a hold of them- selves, and pull yourself up by your bootstraps, shows a lack of spiritual understanding and compassion. If you are suffering in si- lence, please seek help. God knows what you are feeling and there is help. Your faith is strong and God's love for you is absolute. If you know someone who is suffering, God wants you to bind up the brokenhearted, set the captive free, and share with them the good news of the Gospel of Je- sus Christ. Will you allow God to use you? "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." 2Ti 1:7.
