The Lady Titans have been on fire since their ugly 13-6 home loss to North Posey on a cold and windy evening. They are now 18 -4 and on a roll with the sectional in two weeks. This week the Titans have won three games in three days. They beat Carmi 6 -1 on Monday, Wood North 16 -0 and Evansville North 8 -2 on Wednesday. "I said earlier in the year if we continue to work to get better and clean up a few things, we had the potential to be good. Right now we have gotten better in every aspect of the game. We are having more quality at -bats, we are playing bet- ter defense, we are getting better pitching and we are doing an excel- lent job at running the bases," said Titan head coach Gary May. Brenna Blume and Alexis Tuck- er hit home runs to power Gibson Southern over Carmi on Monday. Tucker broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when she led off with a smash over the center field fence. Then Blume led off the bottom of fourth inning with a home run as she hit a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence as well. In the fourth inning the flood- gates opened. Ryann Smith hit a one-out single, stole second base and then went to third on a ball. Sydney Long singled to drive in Smith. Long stole second, then went to third on a passed ball. Lau- ryn Adamson walked and Blume then hit a double, driving in Long. Olivia Money hit a fly to right field to bring home Adamson and Ally Malone hit a two-out single to bring in Blume for a 6 -0 lead. Carmi's only run came in the sixth inning when the first two bat- ters reached on a single and error. Another error allowed the runner to score. TITANS BLANK CHARGERS By Mike Sandifar Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern put together a seven-run first inning and never looked back in pounding visiting Pike Central in Fort Branch Tues- day evening, 12-0. The Titans' Bradyn Epperson hit the first pitch of the game out of the park to start the contest and give Gibson Southern a 1-0 lead. The next three Titan hitters scored, along with three other Gib- son Southern hitters in an inning that saw the eventual winners bat around in the frame, with 10 bat- ters going to the plate in the open- ing inning. A fter getting seven runs in the first inning, Gibson Southern went down in order in the second inning, but the Titans put two more scores across the plate in the bottom of the third frame to add to the 7-0 advan- tage over the Chargers to make the score 9 -0 after three innings. The visitors went down one, two, three in their half of the fourth in- ning, and the Titan bats again came alive in their half of the fourth to score three more runs to lead 12-0. In the top of the fifth frame, Pike Central junior Jagar Dent opened the inning with a hard single to left field to put a runner on first with no outs, but senior Titan Logan Thomas got the next three Pike Central batters to end the game on the 10 -run rule after four and one-half innings. Gibson Southern out-hit the Char- gers 12-3 in the contest, but Pike Central did work the Titan pitching staff for six walks in the encounter, while just two Titan hitters received a free pass to first base. Epperson and seniors Logan Maurer and Ryan Holzmeyer all had a pair of hits for Gibson South- ern, while seniors Kaden Hurless, Colton Okes, Levi Dickerson, Regan Farmer, Drew Foster and junior Seth Parsons all had one hit in the team's four at-bats. Epperson had a home run and a double in the game-shortened out- ing, and Okes and Hurless each smacked a double for the Titans. Ep- person was credited with three RBIs in the fray. The win lifted the Titans to 11-4 on the season, including 4-4 in PAC outings. The loss left Pike Central with a 2-11 record on the year, in- cluding 0 -7 in league play. Gibson Southern was scheduled to play PAC opponent Boonville last Wednesday, then tangle with league foe Southridge on Thursday, and fin- ish the week with a non-conference match-up with Mt. Carmel, all on the road, after already taking on Evans- ville Central on Monday, and Pike Central on Tuesday. Titan Sloan Cox won the shot put with a school record toss of 58'10.75. It was the third time this season he has broken the record in an incremental improvement. But he exploded in the discus to place third in the event with a 165'2", for the first time he has topped 150 feet in the event. In the preliminary round he only threw 143'4", which made him the last guy into the finals, when he uncorked the 165 throw. Coach Ron Kahle said throwers See SHOWCASE on page 6
