Saturday he set a new Gibson Southern record for 18 holes and was the med- alist. Gibson Southern fin- ished second in the 15 -team tournament. Jasper won the tournament with a team score of 321. Gib- son Southern had a 339 for second and North Harrison at 349 placed third. Blackard shot a 69, which is quite the feat, but he did it at Sultan's Run, a Tim Liddy-de- signed course, widely recog- nized as one of the toughest in Indiana, and it was set up for tournament play. He also did it in spite of carding a tri- ple bogey on a par 5. "I'm running out of adjec- tives to describe his play," said Titan Assistant Coach Al Lentz. Blackard's triple bogey on the par 5 fourth hole started with a tee shot to the right in- to heather grass. Coach Matt Reinbrecht said it was a fluffy lie and Blackard went "right under it." His third shot got out of the heather, but it led to an eight. "I went right over and talk- ed to him, told him 'there's a lot of golf to play,'" said Re- inbrecht. He added, "Peyton won't be hitting a driver next week on that hole. (They play the PAC at Sultan's Run on Saturday). Blackard clawed his way back to one over on the front nine. He made par on holes 10 through 12. On the par 5 13th, he reached the front of the green in two strokes. The green is a two-tiered, and he was about 60 feet away. "Fan- tastic two-putt for birdie," said Reinbrecht. Then he birdied the next three holes. "He was in the zone on the back nine. He was calm and collected. I have nev- er seen a high school player, let alone a freshman, be that way in the six years I have been coaching," said Rein- brecht. The result was a 69. The next closest golfer to him was a 72 by Jasper's number one player, Caleb Schnarr with a 72. Conner Swarzentruber was third with a 75. Only six other players broke 80. Gibson Southern's other scores were Ryan Islam 85, Cale Martin 89, Mitchel Gilles 96 and Dawson Maurer 105. Team scores were: Jasper 321, Gibson Southern 339, North Harrison 349, South Spencer 351, Heritage Hills 354, Forest Park 356, Coryd- on Central 362, Ev. Memorial 362, Springs Valley 363, Jas- per Gold 365, Floyd Central 373, Tell City 396, Paoli 401 and Southridge 413. Gibson Southern's strong showing bodes well for them this week as they will play in the PAC Championship on Saturday at Sultan's Run in Jasper. Gibson Southern only sent six batters to plate in the first two innings of what looked like was going to be a defen- sive struggle, as Titan pitcher Alexis Tucker had gotten out six of the first seven she faced.
