Future 4-H'ers tour fairgrounds Submitted Pike County Extension director Jim Lu- zar and educator Sarah Hopkins engaged mini 4-H members in an interactive tour of the 4-H Fairgrounds on Monday morning. The tour began in the 4-H building where the youth were able to see the projects made by 4-H members. The group then walked to the livestock barns where they were able to interact with horses, cattle, swine, sheep, goats, rabbits and poultry. At each stop, youth learned about proper care and safety around each type of animal. The tour ended with a healthy snack in the 4-H building. Mini 4-H is for youth in grades kinder- garten through second, and provides them with the opportunity to explore 4-H oppor- tunities. It is important to engage the young mem- bers in age appropriate activities that keep them interested in 4-H activities. This was the first year the Mini 4-H tour was held. The tour helped the youth feel more com- fortable around animals and get acquainted with activities that happen during the Pike County 4-H Fair.
