The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, July 24, 2019 C-9 OBITUARIES Submit obituaries: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: obits@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Deadline: 5 p.m. on Monday can try to join athletic teams such as soccer, basketball or perhaps other types of activ- ities such as the debate or drama club. Getting involved will help your child connect with oth- er peers that share the same interests. This can create friendships and help your child develop a sense of be- longing to the school. As a parent you can get involved by joining the P TA and attending school meet- ings. Become friends with other parents and plan play dates if your children are young. Together with these tips and objectives, you can ease your child's transition into a change of hope and a bright new beginning at a new school. Yes, changing schools can be scary, but it can also be a wonderful new beginning in a child's life. This column is written by Mary Haas, LSW, school so- cial worker for Youth First, Inc., a local nonprofit dedi- cated to strengthening youth and families. Youth First pro- vides 55 Master's level social workers to 76 schools in 10 In- diana counties. Over 38,500 youth and families per year have access to Youth First's school social work and after- school programs that prevent substance abuse, promote healthy behaviors, and max- imize student success.
