Dr. de la Vergne joins Daviess Community Hospital staff Daviess Community Hos- pital announce that Tan- ya de la Vergne, Md., has joined their medical staff at the hospital and will serve as a full-time pediatrician at Grand Avenue Pediatrics. Dr. de la Vergne and her husband, Dr. John Stafford, recently moved to Washing- ton from Decatur, Ala. As a physician and mother of four, she brings 23 years ex- pertise and personal experi- ence to pediatric patients of Daviess County and the sur- rounding area. A native of Louisiana, Dr. de la Vergne received a Bachelor of Science in Psy- chology at Newcomb Col- lege of Tulane University. She later received a Mas- ter of Social Work at Tulane University School of Social Work. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Medicine. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Acad- emy of Pediatrics. Dr. Tanya de la Vergne Free rides, plus rodeo, demo derby, motocross and more at the Fair By Andy Heuring The 2019 Pike County 4-H Fair is well underway and the weather forecast is for the best weather of the summer, with daytime highs in the low 80s and nighttime lows in the low 60s. Free car- nival rides start on Thurs- day at 5:30 p.m. and run through Saturday. There is a $5 parking fee per vehicle on these nights. Abigail Sutt was named Miss Pike County, Lau- ren Young Miss Teen Pike County, Jessa Ridao Junior Miss Pike County and Mad- dy McCandless Little Miss Pike County. They will reign over the 4-H Fair this week. The Family Fun night is scheduled for tonight's ac- tivities in the amphitheater. They will have miniature golf, giant hillbilly mudslide and the FFA pedal tractor pull all beginning at 7 p.m. Other 4-H events on Wednesday include the rab- bit show at 9 a.m., and beef dairy and sheep shows at 6:30 p.m. THURSDAY, JULY 25 Free rides start on Thurs- day at 5:30 p.m. This night will also feature the Xtreme Roughstock Rodeo Tour at 7 p.m. 4-H events during the day include Senior Citizens Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seniors will be treated to wheelchair-friendly events, including eating fair food, touring the 4-H exhibits in the 4-H Building and a whirl on the swing rides. The Rodeo Family Hour starts at 6 p.m. FRIDAY, JULY 26 Friday's big events are the demolition derby and livestock auction. The auc- tion starts at 5:30 p.m. in the livestock barn. Derby regis- tration is from 4 to 4:30 p.m. It starts at 7 p.m. Free carnival rides are at 5:30 p.m. SATURDAY, JULY 27 The Youth Fishing tour- ney at Prides Creek starts at 9 a.m. Classic Car show is from 10 a.m. to noon. The Pike County's Got Tal- ent show is set for noon at the Amphitheater in Hor- nady Park. The Kentucki- ana Backyard BBQ starts at noon, with awards at 4 p.m. Th Cutest Baby contest win- ners will be announced at 4 p.m. and Super Cross Track practice starts at 4 p.m. A cornhole tourney is set for 5 p.m., with the rides opening at 5 p.m. Super Cross races start at 7 p.m. Back-to-school help offered By Andy Heuring Several area churches are offering families help in get- ting ready for back to school, which is around the corner. This weekend, The Riv- er of Life Church, located at 342 E. CR 300 N., Peters- burg, is offering school sup- plies, clothes, shoes, back- packs, lunch boxes, food and drawings for children. It is all free, but the child must be present. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 28. FREE HAIRCUTS AT GRC SUNDAY, AUGUST 4 The Glezen Revival Cen- ter is offering free hair- cuts, T-shirts, socks, pen- cils, crayons and notepads to school children in grades K-12.
