Patoka Valley Quilt Guild July meeting By Kathy Weyer, Secretary The July meeting was called to order by Presi- dent Pamela Catt with 31 members present and one guest. She stated that the new budget for 2019 -2020 had been lowered from the past year and had been ap- proved by the board. Becky Fuller of the Ed- ucation Committee will be teaching a class on August 17 at the Ferdinand Library. An upcoming program will be given by Marge Hev- ron on using quilting rulers and a quilting foot for rul- ers to quilt your quilts. Not your regular quilting rul- ers. Sherri Hilgeman report- ed that open sewing will be at the Ferdinand Library July 27 and August 23-24. She also reminded every- one to be collecting the quilts they want to display at the Krempp Gallery Ex- hibit for the August Show- ing. Get with Sherri as to when and where she will want your quilts. Reminder if you have not paid your membership as of yet, it will be due by the Au- gust meeting. Also let Mel- lisa know if you have any changes in your informa- tion before she prints the new booklets. Special Projects distrib- uted 33 quilts to various places that we support. Upcoming Retreats: St. Meinrad, October 11-13; Spring Retreat, at Spring Mill, February 21-23, 2020 ; Summer Retreat, at St. Meinrad on June 9 -11, 2020. Information will be forth comings as they get closer. This month's project was shown by Becky Fuller us- ing water color ink pens to color fabric. Many tried to do it on sample pieces that Becky brought with her. Next month Nancy Merkel will show how to make a wooden ironing pad and a T V tray side ironing table. HOUCHIN-DEJARNETT FAMILY REUNION The Houchin and DeJarnett family reunion will be Sunday, Aug. 4 from 11:30 a.m.- ? at Hornady Park, 1213 W. Park Road, Petersburg. Area Reunion Dr. Wilbanks joins medical staff at Memorial Hospital Ophthalmologist Laurie Wilbanks, M.D. was recent- ly appointed to the active medical staff at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. She will be joining Dr. Judy Englert at Southern Indiana Eye Associates, 200 St. Charles Street, in Jasper. Dr. Wilbanks received her bachelor of science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette. She attend- ed the University of Lou- isville School of Medicine where she earned her doc- tor of medicine with distinc- tion in research. The Medi- cal University of South Caro- lina in Charleston chose her for their competitive surgi- cal internship and residen- cy in ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute. As a resident, Dr. Wil- banks distinguished her- self as a clinician, surgeon, and scholar. She has pre- sented research spanning a range of topics at nation- al ophthalmology meetings. In addition, she has experi- ence in international out- reach in ophthalmology. Dr. Wilbanks is a board-eligible ophthalmologist proficient in all aspects of general oph- thalmic care including cata- ract surgery, glaucoma, di- agnosis of acute retinal dis- orders, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration.
