We are losing many of our liberties and Christi- anity is coming under attack from our gov- ernment in many ways. Our founding fathers intended that we have fundamental religion. This was intended to be faith in God and His Word. It also allowed people to have no faith. There are many benefits from Christian prin- ciples being practiced in government, educa- tion and society in general. It is evident that Christian faith is America's greatest resource. Our culture is going through a generation- al change that is no friend to Christianity. Pas- tors Jeremiah Wright and Rob Bell have pro- moted a theology that is anti everything the Bi- ble teaches. The liberal media promotes these false prophets and is usually unfavorable to true Bible based values. Men like Jim Wallis of Sojourners magazine are the White House point men to attack evangelicals. Many pas- tors have become Universalists in their major beliefs. Men like Michael Moore and George Soros fund many organizations that have a bi- as to Christian teach- ings. They have been successful in their at- tacks supported by the ACLU and, as a re- cent Gallup Pole tells us, church attendance is at an all time low. Christians should be bold in their faith. You may feel outnum- bered, but keep faith in God. Pray for the Su- preme Court, Congress and the President. Globalization and a one world church is not the answer. America needs to rediscover what made her great. Our roots go deep into the Bible and Christianity. Our nation has never been more in need of a spiritual awakening. Before we give up and retreat, let us remem- ber Germany, Russia and many of the Europe- an countries facing empty churches and lim- ited freedoms. Our Lord's appearance to Saul of Tarsus (later called Paul) on the road to Damascus, changed the pitiless persecutor in a moment into the docile, yes the devoted follower of the Christ he had so bitterly hated. This transformation took place not only because he had now seen the risen, ascend- ed Christ; it was caused also by what he had learned from Christ. From heaven the Lord had revealed to Paul the glory of His fin- ished work of redemption and had sent him forth to proclaim "the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20 :24). This is seen in the closing words of the Apostle's first recorded sermon, delivered at the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia. A f- ter mentioning the death and resurrection of Christ, the Apostle said: "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this Man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses" (Acts 13:38,39). Paul never changed this message, but kept emphasizing it wherever he went as well as in his writings. He saw in this truth the answer to man's condemnation for breaking God's holy law. Thus he wrote to the Romans: "…by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested" (Rom. 3:20,21). "[We] declare, I say, at this time, [Christ's] righteousness; that [God] might be just and the Justifier of him which be- lieveth in Jesus" (Rom. 3:26). Mark well: He does not say, "believeth and is baptized." This was the message committed to the twelve (Mark 16: 16; Acts 2:38). With the ushering in of the dispen- sation of grace God was manifested as "the Justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." We have been remodeling our grandkid's room and have been really busy with replac- ing some of the floor and installing a ceiling fan and light. The man helping us had to fig- ure out how to make what we wanted work but he is a smart guy and it turned out really well. My wife has painted the walls and I was kidding her it was so bright in there the kids wouldn't be able to sleep. As always she done a good job but it took her three coats to get it to cover the way she wanted. Friday the Lions clubs of Petersburg and Winslow had a committee meeting concern- ing our abilities to help those who have trouble financing the purchase of eye glasses. It has gotten so expensive helping folks that we had to find more affordable ways to help. When- ever one of our clubs has a fund raiser please dig as deep as you can to help us because we need your support. If you ever feel the pull to be a part of the Lions please get in touch with one and we'll be happy to have you as a part of our group.
