The Press-Dispatch Local Wednesday, Februar y 20, 2019 A- 5 Chainsaw training for woodland owners, March 2 The Four Rivers Forest- ry Committee and the ID- NR Division of Forestry is offering "Chainsaw Train- ing for Woodland Own- ers" on Saturday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. The registration fee for the training is $40. Class size is limited to 12 participants. Participants should meet at 8:45 a.m. EST at the Pike State Forest office, located at 5994 E State Road 364, Winslow. The Chainsaw Train- ing will be taught by Joe Glenn, Certified Trainer. The class will have class- room and outdoor demon- strations of personal pro- tective equipment, chain- saw safety features, and introduction to felling and TSI techniques. Participants must be 18 or older and should dress for the weather conditions. They should bring a hard- hat with a face guard, hear- ing protection, and boots. If their hardhat doesn't have a face guard or ear muffs, they may bring safe- ty glasses and ear plugs in- stead. Every participant will have the opportunity to fell a tree. Lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided to all pre-registered par- ticipants. Door prizes, in- cluding personal safety equipment, will be award- ed at the end of the train- ing. Door prizes are donat- ed by John's Tractor, and Tom's Lawn and Garden, and Appliances. Advance registrations are a must, as the class size is limited to 12 partic- ipants. "Jack" Lauder- dale, 81, passed away at 6 a.m. on February 18, 2019, at his residence with his fami- ly by his side. He was born in Pike Coun- ty on November 25, 1937, the son of Jesse and Thel- ma (Houchin) Lauderdale. He married Sharlyn Jones on November 16, 1969. She survives and in November they would have celebrated fifty years of marriage. He served his country in the United States Army and worked in construction, working out of the Local 181 Operating Engineers Hall. He lived to provide for his wife, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved life and loved being around peo- ple. He was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Sharlyn Lauderdale; children, Tracy (Patty) Lau- derdale, Pam ( Jeff ) Phillips, Kay (Steve Garland) Snid- er, Brenda (Danny Deck- ard) Taylor, and Rodney (Lisa) Frederick; grand- children, Tyler Lauderdale, Amber Hutton, Candace Schuessler, Cassie Melton, Jason Grimme, Rich Cary, Chad and Josh Taylor, and Mike, Christy and Britta- ny Frederick; eleven great- grandchildren; and sister, Pat (Bill) Fulkerson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb- ruary 21, 2019, at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broad- way, Vincennes, with Dale Biehl officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funer- al home. Obituaries Jaydlyn Goeppner advances to state finals in Region 11 Career Development Conference Pike Central's Jaydlyn Goeppner advanced to the state finals recently in the Region 11 Career Develop- ment Conference. Students from eight high schools par- ticipated in the conference. The students are part of the Jobs for America's Gradu- ates ( JAG) program and compete each year locally, with winners advancing to the State competition. JAG students compete in 13 different categories, ei- ther as a class or individual- ly. Competitions are judged by local business represen- tatives and community leaders. Class competitions include: Brochure, Com- mercial, Service Learning Blog and Entrepreneur- ship Plan. Individual com- petitions include: Cover De- sign, Writing, Public Speak- ing, Financial Literacy, Em- ployability Skills, Critical Thinking, Creative Solu- tions and Career Presen- tation.
