There are no postcards this week at Sweets Column Winslow, Ind. 47598. Rain, rain and more rain, then the sleet and snow starts that also brought in the flooding. The Winslow Patoka River is over its banks, and at the Riv- erside Park, the rain has covered the boat ramp where the beaver is sur- rounded by water. DaWoo the Eskimo and the shelter house were okay. If it still keeps raining, it won't be long and water will surround there also. The field has lakes of water behind the Winslow Liquor Store. Yards are so full of soaked ground that when the weather forecast says rain, sleet and snow, you try to lay something on the ground so you can walk and not sink up to your ankles. I talked to my sister, Terri Ann on their anniversary, and it doesn't seem like they have been married 25 years. Yes, a silver year. As I wished them years of happiness, Terri Ann had said she had fell the other day, but as x-rays were taken, she had not bro- ken any bones. She had a bump on her head, and her whole body is ach- ing from the fall. Everyone please be careful outside. The Spurgeon Monroe Fire Dept. is holding a membership drive for those stars who would like to serve your community with this fire group of stars. If you are interested, con- tact Donnie Pancake, the fire chief, or come and join us at the March 10 meet- ing at 2 p.m. at the Fire Station House. The Homeland Securi- ty has given the Winslow Fire Dept. 10 smoke alarms for the Winslow citizens in their homes, and if you are in need of a smoke alarm, contact Fire Chief Jason Bot- toms. He is also hoping to get a few smoke alarms for the hearing impaired. If Jason runs out, then you will be put on a list when more alarms are given out. The Winslow Town Council meeting was a packed crowd again, with two hours of interesting information for the Winslow citizens. I also heard that Ti- na Gayhart had resigned from her job in Winslow, and we wish the best in her future endeavors. Many citizens have responded to the council on speeding in town, wa- ter runoffs that cause trouble and oth- er concerns. You can still give your in- put in your area either online or in writ- ing. The next town meeting is March 11 at 7 p.m. at the community center. Valentine's Day was sunshiny and the warm day was great. The strong winds were okay, but strong enough to blow your vehicle when the gusts of 40 mph began. My better half, Norm, got me a box of chocolates and he even made our dinner. I made us breakfast. It was a great day with the one I love so much. We both hope you all had the best day with your loved one. Have you ever helped someone out because it was the right thing to do? Well keep doing what you feel is right and those who talk bad about it should try to help others themselves. The lights are about to dim on this week, but please keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy your area. As I always say, smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
