Petersburg Elementary robotics teams qualify for state championship Petersburg Elementary has qualified a third robotics team for the 2019 Indiana VEX Robotics State Championship at Lu- cas Oil Stadium on Saturday, March 9. The Indiana VEX Robotics State Champi- onship is the largest state robotics competi- tion in the nation, with 360 teams compet- ing from around the Hoosier state. Teams are eligible to compete at the event by win- ning a state-qualifying award at a local com- petition. Teams that advance from the State Championship have the opportunity win a spot to compete at the VEX Worlds Cham- pionship in April. "Indiana has the most VEX IQ Elemen- tary and Middle School Robotics teams in the United States, so advancing to the state championship is a commendable achieve- ment," says George Giltner, State Direc- tor of Robotics for TechPoint Foundation for Youth. "The best of the state's robotics competitors will be on display, and we look forward to seeing the teams showcase their talents at the event on the largest stage In- diana has to offer." Petersburg Elementary Robotics Team Smarties won the Tell City Elementary/ Middle School VEX robotics competition on Saturday. This win qualified the team of Zayne Bell, Jacob Harker and Joshua Hark- er for the state competition. They join two other Petersburg teams Team Trump made up of Lane Freder- ick, Carter McCain and Aksel Onyett and Fierce Unicorns with team members Kae- don Jansen, Tyler Collins, Jacoby Smith and Llinkyn Knust. The state competition is free to attend. "We invite you to please show your sup- port of our team by helping cheer on Peters- burg Elementary Smarties, Team Trump, and Fierce Unicorns at the Indiana VEX Ro- botics State Championship," said Robotics coach and sponsor Terra Knust. The Petersburg Elementary School robots team of PES Smarties won team competition at Tell City over the weekend, which qualifies them for the state championships on Saturday, March 9 in Lucas Oil Stadium. Team members are Joshua Harker, Jacob Harker and Zayne Bell.
