Ethan Scott scored on a drive with 1:50 left. Hayden Kabrick made it 10 -5 with 58 seconds to go and had a layup roll off the rim with 10 seconds left in the quarter. Instead, Forest Park got the rebound and got a shot off just be- fore the buzzer. Hopf rebounded it, and put it back up and in at the buzzer. So instead of a 10 -7 lead, it was 12-5. "I was pleased with our effort against Forest Park. I thought we really played well, we just didn't shoot it well. We had multiple opportunities to cut into the lead and just did not make shots," said Charger coach Hunter Elliott. Forest Park went on a 9 -2 run to take their lead out to 23-9. But Pike Central began to claw their way back into the game with a Scott three, followed by a Joey Church lay- up on a break off a turnover. Judah Leathco dropped a three-point- er at the 7:30 mark of the second quar- ter to make it a 23-17 game. Reid Steffe's three pointer late in the first half pushed the Ranger's lead to 35 -24 at halftime. They would push that lead to 45 -25 with a Hopf basket in the paint with four minutes left in the game. "Hopf is a very talented player and with his size and skill, it was difficult for us to stop him when they went in- side to him. I do feel like we did a nice job defensively for the most part, just came back to making shots," said El- liott. Forest Park then held Pike Central to only scoring six points in the final quarter to fall 47-30. It was the third loss of the week for Pike Central. They will play the 14-7 Hatchets on their home court in the first game on Tuesday, Feb- ruary 26. The second game on Tuesday will be between Southridge (17-5) and Sulli- van (12-10). The winner of the Pike Central vs. Washington game will play Vincennes Lincoln (9 -13) in the first game on Fri- day. The second game on Friday will be the winner of Southridge vs. Sullivan against Princeton (17-4). The champi- onship game will be on Saturday night. "Our sectional is one of the toughest in the state and it is never easy regard- less of who you draw. Washington is a senior-laden basketball team with a lot of experience and size. If we can play defense and compete the way we did against Jasper and Forest Park, we will give ourselves a chance. Statistics and records are great, but the thing is they are in the past. We need to come out and play aggressive and believe in our- selves, and you never know what can happen this time of year," said Char- ger head coach Hunter Elliott. Ethan Gorby drives the lane against Forest Park's Curt Hopf. Gor- by had five points in the loss. Christian Benson blows past a Forest Park defender on his way to the bucket. He scored two points in the game.
