Poplar Street, Petersburg When we believing Christians hear some "scientist" speak of "our ancestors" roaming this earth, say, 40,000,000 years ago, we be- come upset, and exclaim: "What nonsense! " Why? The answer is that we know that the speaker is not stating scientific facts; he is propagating the long-disproven theo- ry of evolution. Worse than that, the speak- er has denied God's own account of creation by disseminating a theory far more difficult to believe. Yet, when the believer hears a scientist re- fer to some planet, say, 460,000,000 miles away he rejoices and exclaims: "How great is our God! " Why the difference? Ah, be- cause astronomy, unlike evolution, is basi- cally a science. Granted, some astronomers may go far afield when they speculate on the origin of the universe; they may even make ma- ny errors in their calculations, but astrono- my proper is nevertheless a science, based mainly on mathematics and physics. This has proved to be true as men from earth have orbited the earth and the moon and have landed on the moon, returning back to earth again. Indeed, it is only a few months since two soft landings (of instruments) were made on the planet Venus, about 67,000,000 miles away, and all the above with the earth, the moon and Venus, not only traveling through space at incredible speeds, but with each all the while revolv- ing on its own individual axis! The Lord Jesus Christ dwelt in glory "far above all heavens" in eternity past and came to earth to subject Himself to humiliation and death only that He might pay the pen- alty for our sins and redeem us to Himself: "That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus" (Eph. 2:7). Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thomas Well so far so good, because I started this week off with only an occasional cough, so maybe there is a light at the end of the tun- nel. It has been a busy week with about any kind of weather we could imagine. You could describe this week's weather as a buf- fet, because there seemed to be a type of weather where everyone could find some- thing to enjoy. I'm glad the temperature was high enough to keep that beautiful snow from becoming any more of a dangerous situa- tion as it could have. Every display at Hornady park is stored with the exception of the toy soldier and when the bucket truck and the display vol- unteers can get together it will as well be stored. Please enjoy our park all year long because our park has been bragged on by other counties and it is one of the prettier parks in this area. Our controversial topic last week achieved several good comments and no bad as far as I have heard. At church today, Bro. Jeff Crowe spoke about a love that re- quired no expectation of a return of love. Our leaders should come to the realization that they were elected to represent us, not fight one another. I know that each of us has opinions and our elected officials will as well, but why not have enough love for their fellow man and God above to at least listen to one anoth- er without closing their minds to the pos- sibility of hearing something that might be good for us all. There is an old saying that it takes a smarter person to make someone else's idea work than it does to be the author of a great idea. I will always say that our officials must work together not fight against one another. Enough for this subject today because there are many armchair philosophers who think they have the answers, but they aren't in the office to exercise their superb wis- dom. However, we can tell our representa- tives to please be willing to at least listen. As Christians we have been asked to live our lives in such a way that others see our love for Jesus and the Holy Father. We aren't supposed to take up the sins of the world, but if we hide our light from those who need to see the light, what good have we done? It is not our duty to change others, but it is our duty to show the way like Jesus has shown the way. So show the world how to fulfill God's will in our lives and then let God change what needs changing. Well, enough rambling around for this column, so do your best to love one another and be a blessing to all you meet this week. Give us a call: 812-354-8500 Continued on page 2 A few institutions have set our standards and defined the 21st Century culture. These are the powerful forces at work in our soci- ety and they usually have an anti-Christian slant. The most powerful is the media fol- lowed by music, movies and the internet. They are the primary source of our cultur- al battles raging today. The elite media is controlled by a group of people who are politically archliberals and have few Christian values. Except for Fox Cable there is little that is balanced in the T V media. Money and power are the two goals of the media. One survey found that 86 % of the elite media never attend church. Most of them believe homosexuality is an acceptable way of life and feel driven to de- stroy the Christian faith. In the movie industry there are about 700 writers, producers, and actors who have no regard for the morals of the American peo- ple. This group pro- duces 75% of all the shows on T V. These people make fun of religion and Chris- tians and entertain us by breaking most of the Ten Command- ments. Only a few Christians ever pro- test what is happen- ing. The music and social media industries have been vehicles to promote drug use and to have sex outside marriage. Music has be- come the guiding light for millions of young people. One may wonder why all this anti- God and anti-family attitude is so evident in these three industries. The answer is a re- flection of their own lives and beliefs. ,W¶VDOODERXWIDPLO\ $W *RRG 6DPDULWDQ LW LV RXU SURPLVH WR WUHDW \RX OLNH IDPLO\ E\ GHOLYHULQJ FRPSDVVLRQDWHKLJKTXDOLW\FDUHWKURXJKRXW\RXUMRXUQH\)URPURXWLQHSK\VLFDOV WRRXWSDWLHQWWHVWLQJOLIHVDYLQJSURFHGXUHVDQGEH\RQG\RXFDQWUXVW*RRG 6DPDULWDQWREHZLWK\RXHYHU\VWHSRIWKHZD\ 0LVVLRQ 3URYLGHH[FHOOHQWKHDOWKFDUHE\ SURPRWLQJZHOOQHVVHGXFDWLRQDQG KHDOLQJWKURXJKWUXVWLQJUHODWLRQVKLSV 9LVLRQ 7REHWKHUHJLRQDOFHQWHURI H[FHOOHQFHLQKHDOWKFDUHWRVXSSRUW WKHFRPPXQLWLHVZHVHUYH RIVER OF LIFE 342 E.
