William S. Flener, 28, of 212 S. 15th St., Petersburg, was arrested by Pike County Deputy Buck Seger. Deputy Seger said he was called to Angela Kolley's and Nathan Houchin's residence at about 8 p.m. When he ar- rived, he saw Flener standing on the house's front porch and heard him yelling at Houchin and Kolley. Deputy Seger said even after he told Flener to calm down, he continued to yell. Houchin and Kolley said Flener came to their resi- dence and was knocking on the door and yelling, trying to get Houchin to come out- side and fight him. They said they told Flener to leave, and his girlfriend got him off the porch and into a vehicle to leave, but he got out of the vehicle, and returned to their porch and began yelling at them again. Deputy Seger said Flener tested more than twice the le- gal limit for blood alcohol con- tent on a portable breath test. He was transported to the Pike County Jail, where he was arrested on preliminary charges of public intoxica- tion, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Four-wheeler issues, ADA compliance top Winslow Town Council meeting By Andy Heuring Winslow Town Council- man issued a warning to rid- ers of four-wheelers in town during a recent council meet- ing. "I have been getting a lot of complaints on people rid- ing four wheelers way too fast in town. We don't have an or- dinance against them riding in town. But if they are go- ing to ride them without any sense, then we are gong to have to do something about it. . . You need to use com- mon sense or we are going to have to do something dif- ferent. It is a privilege to get to ride them," said Strobel. Councilmen voted to pass a resolution adopting the American Disabilities Act in Winslow, it requires Winslow to demonstrate compliance with the ADA and not to dis- criminate against a person with disabilities. Winslow Clerk-Treasur- er Stacy Worthington an- nounced Winslow had been notified they were not select- ed for a broadband grant. Winslow and Petersburg had jointly applied, both were re- jected. Councilmen voted 3-0 to submit a grant for the Cross- roads Community grant that will pay 75 percent of paving costs. At a previous meet- ing, councilmen compiled the following list of roads to be submitted for the grant. The projects were: Bluff St. from Porter to North St. $11,659; Factory Ave. from High- way 61 to its end $21,580 ; Brenton St. from Highway 61 to Third St. $21,395; North St. from Bluff St. to Collins St. $ 31,620 ; Porter St. from Bluff St. to Collins St. $ 33,495; Union St. from Highway 61 to Collins St. $55,320. Winslow's costs if they receive the grant would be about $43,000. Councilman Strobel praised work at the town's sewer lagoons by Street Supervisor Dave Gayhart. Gayhart installed an electri- cal line to equipment, which had previously been operat- ed from a battery pack, at the lagoons. "We are lucky we have Da- vid as our street supervisor. Because putting in that elec- tric line out there at the la- goons would have been ex- pensive. Him knowing how to do that saved us a lot of money. He knows how to do a lot stuff you wouldn't have to do as street supervisor," said Strobel. The council voted to play the claims totaling $40,174.65. The next coun- cil meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, October 8. On Sunday members of Patoka Township Fire Dept. participated in a physical fitness course. Six sta- tions were designed to mimic something fire fighters may come across on an emergency scene. Each member was timed and recorded. The goal is to see what they to improve on and get stronger and health- ier. "We will do this again in the spring and the person with the most improvement will get a reward. As stated, our goal was to see where we need improvement. What I was most proud of was the encourage- ment each member received from the others. It proved to be a great team building exercise as well as a push for better physical fitness," said Assistant Chief Daniel Shelton, who organized the event along with Secretary Carrie Shelton, and firefighter Josh Popp. Above: Adrienne Hamm digs in to flip a large tractor tire.
