With the loss, Pike Cen- tral ended the season 2-12. "This year's team was a group of kids who compet- ed every match, and despite our small numbers, they never let that be an issue," said Beck. "They always did their best." "Ethan and Dalton did a good job of competing in the top two singles slots, while Kyle and Quintin finished the season with a fine re- cord of 9 -4 at No. 1 doubles," Beck added. "Joey and Jed were nice additions to the team and they were certain- ly a nice pick-up for us." In the other semifinal match on Wednesday, Sept. 26, Forest Park defeated Southridge 4-1. On Thurs- day, Sept. 27, Jasper defeat- ed Forest Park 5 -0 to win its 13th straight sectional title. with a time of 22:44; and sophomore Noah Russell placed 62nd with a personal record time of 23:43, beat- ing his previous PR time of 24:31. In the girls' division, Pike Central High School soph- omore Libby Stone and freshman Quinlan Teague earned all-conference hon- orable mention accolades. Stone placed 11th out of 55 total runners with a time of 21:42, while Teague placed 18th with a time of 22:29. Also placing for the La- dy Chargers were sopho- more Jenna Meyer, who finished 24th with a time of 22:58; sophomore Char- lotte Dudenhoeffer, who finished 27th with a time of 23:09; sophomore Lau- ren Young, who finished 29th with a time of 23:14; junior Shelby Vaughn, who finished 32nd with a time of 23:45; and senior Erin Craig, who finished 40th with a personal record time of 24:38, beating her previ- ous PR time of 24:56. Forest Park senior Claire Mehling placed first overall with a time of 19:35. Forest Park freshman Ellie Hall was second with a time of 19:44, while Heritage Hills sophomore Katie Winkler finished third with a time of 20 :30. As a team, Pike Cen- tral placed fourth with 104 points, trailing For- est Park (21 points), Heri- tage Hills (68) and Gibson Southern (72). Tell City (116) was fifth, followed by Southridge (120), Tecum- seh (188) and North Posey (248). South Spencer al- so participated but did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score. In the girls' open di- vision, freshman Laney Johnson placed 48th out of 64 runners with a personal record time of 24:47, beat- ing her previous PR time of 25:12; freshman Morgan Anderson placed 50th with a personal record time of 24:50, beating her previous PR time of 24:56; and fresh- man Morgan Sallee placed 56th with a time of 26:55. "We felt like all the kids ran very well again," Pike Central head coach Josh Roach said. "They are all really pushing and are locked in on the postsea - son run. This course can run fast but is by no means an easy course. It is very hilly. Even the kids who did not get their best time were right at the same times they ran at our course the week before." "Being consistent is the number one thing that will lead to growth," Roach add- ed. "They are working in- credibly hard and that con- sistency is showing that the base is being built. The goal is to get that biggest jump in growth over the next few weeks. We are all very ex- cited about the things that can happen when that takes place." The sectional girls' and boys' cross country meet will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at South Knox, starting at 11 a.m., Eastern time. The top five teams and the top 10 individuals from non-qualifying teams will advance to the region- al meet, which will be host- ed by Pike Central on Sat- urday, Oct. 13, at Prides Creek Park in Petersburg. Ed Cahill photo Weisman earns All-PAC honor at junior high conference meet Pike Central Middle School sixth grader Xav- ery Weisman earned First Team All-Conference hon- ors in the girls' division during the Pocket Athlet- ic Conference Junior High Meet held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Hoosier Heights Country Club in Tell City. Weisman placed eighth out of a total of 58 runners with a time of 12:48. Also placing for the Lady Chargers were sixth grad- er Kaylyn Warner, who fin- ished 36th with a time of 14:06; seventh grader Ella Hartke, who finished 43rd with a time of 14:31; sixth grader Izzy Luker, who fin- ished 44th with a time of 14:39; sixth grader Eibhlin Teague, who finished 48th with a time of 14:53; sev- enth grader Anna White- head, who finished 49th with a time of 15:02; and seventh grader Ruby Sal- lee, who finished 51st with a time of 15:45. Te- cumseh (215) was eighth while South Spencer (249) finished ninth. In the girls' open divi- sion, fifth grader Kylie Meyer placed 19th out of 64 runners with a time of 14:57, while seventh grad- er Gracie Hill placed 45th with a time of 19:37. In the boys' division, Chargers eighth grader Dallas Ruetepohler placed 12th out of 52 runners with a time of 11:44 to earn hon- orable mention all-confer- ence accolades. Also placing for Pike Central were sixth grad- er Blaine Barnett, who fin- ished 43rd with a time of 13:28, and seventh grader Wyatt Luff, who finished 50th with a time of 14:29. Heritage Hills eighth grader Pierce Lashley placed first overall with a time of 11:00. Tell City eighth grader Brayden Lain was second with a time of 11:02, while Gibson Southern seventh grad- er Alex Spindler finished third with a time of 11:08. Tell City placed first as a team with 38 points, fol- lowed by Gibson Southern (49 points), Forest Park (61), Heritage Hills (90), North Posey (134), South- ridge (138) and Tecumseh (176). Neither Pike Cen- tral or South Spencer had enough runners to qualify for a team score. In the boys' open divi- sion, fifth grader Jacoby Smith placed 12th out of 67 runners with a time of 13:41, and seventh grad- er Carter McCain placed 52nd with a time of 20 :15. Williams, Sorgius receive honorable mention All-PAC boys' tennis The Pike Central High School doubles team of se- nior Kyle Williams and ju- nior Quinton Sorguis re- ceived honorable mention accolades when the Pock- et Athletic Conference's All-Conference Boys' Ten- nis Team were announced on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Williams and Sorgi- us compiled a 9 -3 record at No. 1 doubles for the Chargers this season, in- cluding a 5 -2 mark against PAC foes. Named to the All-PAC team at singles were Lo- gan Smallwood of Heri- tage Hills, Reid Steffe of Forest Park, Jarrett Klus- meier of Gibson Southern, Woody Brucken of Tecum- seh and Josh Dellamuth of Heritage Hills. Named to the All-PAC team at doubles were Luke Peters and J.T. Smallwood of Heritage Hills and Cole Koester and Caleb Wass- mer of North Posey. Receiving honorable mention at singles were Nathan Jarboe of Forest Park and Daniel Knapp of Gibson Southern. Also receiving honorable mention at doubles were Josh Nelson and Blake Sis- ley of Heritage Hills. Heritage Hills finished first in the PAC for the sec- ond straight year, going 7- 0 against conference foes while compiling a regu- lar-season record of 15 - 2. North Posey was 6 -1 in the PAC and 9 -4 overall. Forest Park was 5 -2 in the PAC and 8 -6 overall. Gib- son Southern was 4-3 in the PAC and 10 -5 overall. Te- cumseh was 3-4 in the PAC and 9 -5 overall. Southridge was 2-5 in the PAC and 5 -10 overall. Pike Central was 1- 6 in the PAC and 2-10 over- all. Tell City was 0 -7 in the PAC and 0 -11 overall.
