The lead exchanged hands three times early in the third set until Tecum- seh – with the score tied 6 -6 – scored four straight points, including two on kills by Ox- ley, to take a 10 -6 lead. The Lady Chargers nar- rowed the deficit to three points twice – at 10 -7 and 11- 8 – before Tecumseh scored four of the next five points, including two on kills by se- nior Dalina Meyer, to stretch its lead to 15 -9. Pike Central would get no closer than five points the rest of the match. Crow (three ace serves) and Jenkins (three kills) led the Lady Chargers with three points each. Keepes, Taylor Lamey and junior Emma Russell had two kills each while junior Karsyn Pipes had one block-assist. Keepes added a team- high nine digs while Shoul- tz and junior Aubrie Dawson added six each. Crow, who dished out a team-best seven set-assists, and senior Ken- zie Dunn had five digs each. In the junior varsity con- test, Tecumseh defeated Pike Central 25 -15, 25 -18. Sophomore Neeley Correll led the Lady Chargers with four points with two ace serves and two kills while sophomore Kenzie Pow- ell (one ace serve and two kills) and sophomore Addie Johnson (three kills) scored three points each. Powell al- so had seven set-assists and seven digs. Johnson had a team-high 15 digs, while sophomore Shelby Ridao added eight digs. In the C-team contest, Te- cumseh defeated Pike Cen- tral 25 -18, 25 -10. Freshman Alaina McClellan (one kill and one block) and fresh- man Maddie Lamey (one ace serve and one kill) scored two points each to lead the Lady Chargers. Freshman Madison Riley had a team- high four digs while fresh- men Morgan Blackburn and Zoey Davis added two digs each. Pike Central, which trav- eled to Northeast Dubois on Monday, Oct. 1, and hosted Gibson Southern on Tues- day, Oct. 2, will close out the regular season with a home match against Heritage Hills on Thursday, Oct. 4, with the junior varsity contest slated to start at 6:30 p.m. Pike Central will be host- ing the sectional tourna- ment, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 11, when Princeton will take on Vin- cennes Lincoln in a first- round match. The Lady Chargers will battle de- fending sectional champion Sullivan in the first of two semifinal matches starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, with the winner of the Princeton-Vincennes Lin- coln match taking on Wash- ington in the second semi- final at 1 p.m. The champi- onship game will follow that same evening at 7 p.m. PAC Continued from page 1 Welch leads PCMS 8th grade volleyball team past Princeton Delaney Welch scored a team-high 10 points off serve – including two on ace serves – as the Pike Central Middle School eighth grade volleyball team held off visiting Princeton for a 25 -24, 25 - 24 victory on Monday, Sept. 24. In the first set, the La- dy Chargers scored the first five points, includ- ing four following serves by Welch, and stretched their lead to as many as eight points – at 18 -10 – be- fore Princeton began chip- ping away at the deficit. Trailing 20 -13, the La- dy Tigers outscored Pike Central 11-4 to pull even at 24-24. The rally came up short, however, as the Lady Chargers scored the winning point on a sideout to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three match. A fter Princeton jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the second set, Pike Central scored 11 of the next 13 points, including four fol- lowing serves by Welch and four following serves by Ashlyn Shoultz, to take a 17-14 lead. The Lady Tigers an- swered by scoring the next five points to take a 19 -17 lead before Pike Central rallied, scoring back-to-back points, to pull even at 19 -19. With the game tied at 22-22, Princeton scored two straight points to take a 24-22 lead. The Lady Chargers, howev- er, would score the next three points – including two following serves by Liberty Taylor – to com- plete the straight-set win. "Our two biggest strug- gles in this game would be serves and communi- cation," said Pike Central eighth grade head coach Olivia Leighty, whose team improved to 5 -4. "The girls came together and played with heart to fight through these close games and win. I'm proud of them for playing hard and finishing this match in two games." Shoultz had six points off serve – including one on an ace serve – while Tessa Vinnedge had five points off serve. Tay- lor added four points off serve. In the seventh grade match, Karley Kavanaugh and Brailey Mills both tal- lied eight points off serve – including five each on ace serves – as Pike Cen- tral defeated Princeton 25 -15, 25 -17 to improve to 6 -3. During the first set, the Lady Chargers fell behind by as many as three points – at 7-4 – before scoring four straight points, in- cluding three following serves by Ella Adams, to take an 8 -7 lead. A fter Princeton rallied to tie the score at 8 -8, Pike Central rolled off four con- secutive points, including three following serves by Mills, to surge to a 12-8 lead. Then, leading 12-9, the Lady Chargers scored eight of the next nine points, including four fol- lowing serves by Addy Russell, to extend their lead to 20 -10. The Lady Tigers would close to within seven points – at 22-15 – before Pike Central scored three straight points, including two following serves by Haylie Fulcher, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of- three match. In the second set, af- ter the Lady Chargers scored the seven of the first eight points, Princ- eton answered with a 7-1 scoring run to pull even at 8 -8. However, Pike Central would score six straight points, including five fol- lowing serves by Mills, to take a 14-8 lead. The Lady Tigers would close to within four points – at 14-10, 15 -11, 16 -12 and 17-13 – before Pike Central scored five un- answered points, includ- ing four following serves by Fulcher, to extend its lead to 21-13. Princeton would get no closer than six points – at 22-16 – the rest of the match. Fulcher added seven points off serve, including three on ace serves, while Adams had six points off serve, including three on ace serves. Lexie Onyett led the Lady Chargers in kills with four while Ka- vanaugh had a team-high four set-assists.
