The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, August 29, 2018 C- 3 MINUTES Continued from page 1 Continued in next column Continued in next column Continued from page 2 ourselves. Salvation is on- ly through trusting Christ, and by Him alone we have victory over sin's penal- ty and punishment. A fter trusting Christ as our Sav- ior, we are still weak in our- selves, and in the Christian life our sufficiency must be of God (II Cor. 3:5). Victo- ry over sin's power in our lives occurs the same way we are saved from sin's penalty, by wholly trusting Christ and Him alone. His strength is more than suf- ficient for the battle, and we are guaranteed victo- ry over anything Satan throws at us when we turn to our Lord (Phil. 4:13). The question was asked in a Sunday School class: "How can we defeat Sa- tan? " One little girl an- swered, "Let Jesus answer the door when Satan starts knocking." To be instruct- ed to be "strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" tells us that our might is not strong enough for us to be able to stand in this spiritual battle, and it tells us that we face an en- emy much stronger than we are apart from Christ. Therefore we need the in- finite power of our Lord in this spiritual battle, and we appropriate that strength by yielding to the indwell- ing Spirit, through prayer and dependence on God, and by knowledge of, faith in, and obedience to His Word, rightly divided (cf. Eph. 6:17,18). Pentecostal Presbyterian GLEZEN REVIVAL CENTER 245 S. Glezen Center St. 812-354-6738 or 812-582-9667 Sunday morning wor- ship and children's church 10 :15 a.m.; Youth Group Hearts on Fire will meet on Sunday at 6 p.m. in the Life Center. Refresh and renew group will meet Tuesday, Septem- ber 11 at 6 p.m. Pray for our military and their protection. Also, remember to pray for the USA, peace and for one an- other. Faith and Action "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accom- panied by action, is dead." ( James 2:17, NIV ). This is a hard verse to hear even at the best of times. Long ago, I was taught this verse and told that, "Asking for help, hav- ing faith and taking action on it is like making a fire. You can't get it started, so you ask God for help and have faith. God can make fire from nothing, but he expects you to at least make the effort and have the sticks to do so." This means to not just pray and sit waiting. Claim it. Take action and steps to- wards it. Keep faith and re- main confident that God always hears you and will meet your needs. God bless you and keep you. See our Facebook page Glezen Revival Center. They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habit- ually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God re- quires?] Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you be- lieve in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]. ( John 6:28 -29 AMP). Webster's definition of be- lieve: 1) to take as true, real, etc. 2) to trust a statement or promise of (a person) 3) to have faith. Are you a believer? Continued from last week—"Thou therefore en- dure hardness, as a good sol- ider of Jesus Christ" (II Tim- othy 2:3). "Are there no foes for me to face? Must I not stem the flood? Is this vile world a friend to grace to help me on to God? " This world is the devil's playing field. Christians are in the minority everywhere. There is a broad way, the path followed by the masses, that says we can live howev- er we wish, only "believe" on Jesus for salvation. Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." If you are following the masses who believe you can "sin every day in word, thought, and deed" and still make it to heaven, it's time to turn and swim against the current—it's the only way to heaven. We believe Christ wants us saved. And we make confession to Him to re- ceive our reward of heaven. Why is it so hard to believe in our hearts that He wants to heal us? It's the same faith. It's the same Lord. And if confession is neces- sary for salvation, could it be necessary for our heal- ing as well? Think about it and be Blessed.
