Councilmen had their sec- ond reading of an ordinance setting a list of charges that will be assessed to residents if the town has to perform services on nuisance proper- ties. It states: A minimum fee of $ 300 for labor and equip- ment shall be charged for any work done by the Town to bring compliance with a vio- lated ordinance. A three per- cent administrative fee will be charged in addition to the hourly rate for equipment nec- essary to abate the nuisance." The updated schedule of fees per hour is: labor $ 35, chainsaw $20, fire truck $100, tractor $40, push mower $20, riding lawnmower $ 30, bush hog $40, backhoe $75, pick- up truck $ 30, 1-ton truck $50, 2-ton truck $75. Other charg- es were a $75 fee for every violation correction, land- fill charges at rate town is charged and $25 per gallon of weed killer. Any equipment which becomes broken or damage through normal use during the abatement process will be charged to the project at the actual repair or replace- ment cost of the equipment. This ordinance will require a third reading at the council's next meeting, which is sched- uled for 7 p.m. Monday, Sep- tember 10 at the Community Center. It will have to receive an approving vote of the coun- cil to be put into effect. In other business, Street Supervisor Dave Gayhart said the town would be installing an electrical line to their sew- er lagoon flow meter. He said they are currently battery powered, but the Indiana De- partment of Management wants them to be changed to have electrical service. Gay- hart said in the long run it will save the town time and money. He said they had to change the four batteries out about twice a year. Plus, ev- eryday they had to change and charge the batteries. Gayhart said they hoped to start filling potholes early next week. Councilmen also ap- proved paying the claims of $70,703.21.
