America seems to be on a slippery slope to destruc- tion. Our only hope is a return to God. It is encouraging to see thousands of Christians in every state gathering for prayer. Christians everywhere should pray for spiritual awakening. Even the Son of God felt a strong compelling need to pray and He made it a regular habit of His life. Surely if the Son of God needed to pray, how much more do we need to value and practice the act of prayer. Franklin Graham and the Billy Graham Association are having prayer rallies all over America in 2016. Pastors should en- courage and arrange for many of their peo- ple to attend a prayer rally at your State Cap- itol. This can be a wonderful time to pray for America and take a public stand for Chris- tian values. Our Christian values are under attack. One activist group is calling for all Bibles to be removed from our libraries and schools. There is a great emptiness in the lives of many Americans. They feel their gov- ernment has failed and become greedy and corrupt. On col- lege campuses, most restraints are gone and moral values no longer exist. As we face the 2016 elec- tion, it may determine the direction of our nation. Our churches are no longer a place of prayer and worship. Many have substitut- ed what will draw the largest crowd. Now is the time to call the Church to pray. Prayer changes things. You will never find a sub- stitute for real prayer. Even a child knows that January is the first month of our calendar year. For the ancient people of Israel, however, the first month of the year was the month of Abib, which roughly equates to our month of April. Speaking of Abib, God said, "This month shall be unto you the begin- ning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you" (Exodus 12:2). If you are wondering why God chose April as the beginning of months for His chosen people, we learn the reason in the next chapter: "Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt….This day came ye out in the month Abib" (Exo- dus 13:3,4). God wanted His ancient people to "re- member" that their birth as a nation marked a new beginning for them, so he instructed them to "observe" this month as something special unto the Lord (Deuteronomy 16:1). God's people today often do the same with their spiritual birthdays. Many who can tell you the exact date they were saved consid- er the day worth remembering each year. But what if you can't remember the day you trusted Christ as your Savior? There are many believers who grew up under the sound of the gospel and were saved at an early age. Occasionally, we hear from these dear saints, who tell us they are troubled by the fact that they cannot remember the day they were saved. Since they can't remem- ber the date, some even wonder if they are truly saved. When we hear from believers like this, we like to point out that while we can't re- member the day we first understood that we were born an American citizen, now that we know it to be so, we know that all the rights promised to citizens in the Bill of Rights are ours. In the same way, while you may not remember the day of your spiritual birth, now that you believe, you can be sure that the promise of eternal life and all the other blessings found in Paul's epistles are yours. The point is, of course, that it doesn't mat- ter when you first believe something; what matters is what you believe right now. If you believe you can get to heaven by something that you yourself can do, you are not saved. If you rather believe you are going to heaven because of what Christ did for you on Calva- ry, we'll see you someday in glory! There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.
