The Press-Dispatch Sports Wednesday, May 4, 2016 B- 3 The Pike Central Mid- dle School girls' track and field team won 14 out of 16 events – including all five relays – while romping to a first-place finish in a tri- meet hosted by the La- dy Chargers on Monday, May 2. As a team, Pike Central scored a total of 106 points, easily outdistancing Wood Memorial (43 points) and South Spencer (22). Seventh grader Libby Stone led the Lady Char- gers with first-place fin- ishes in three individu- al events, winning the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:09.00, the 200 -meter dash with a time of 28.47 seconds, and long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 1 inch. Stone also teamed up with eighth graders Lily Frederick-Rice and Jalyn Nelson and seventh grad- er Lauren Young to place first in the 400 -meter relay with a time of 5:00.10. Nelson and eighth grad- er Hadley Holder each won two individual events. Nelson placed first in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 13.78 seconds and in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches, while Hold- er placed first in shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 10 inches, and in discus with a throw of 73 feet, 8 inches. Also placing first in an individual event for the La- dy Chargers was seventh grader Lily Willis, who won the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:45.81. In addition, the team of Frederick-Rice, Willis, Young and sixth grader Kendall Radabaugh placed first in the 3,200 -meter re- lay with a time of 11:46; the team of Holder, Nelson, Willis and eighth grader Jenna McLain placed first in the 400 -meter relay with a time of 57.53 seconds; the team of Radabaugh, sev- enth grader Kailee Mann and sixth graders Cora Anson and Addison Faulk placed first in the seventh grade 400 -meter relay with a time of 1:01.32; and the team of sixth graders Morgan Anderson, Syd- ney Boyd, Jade Kamman and Carissa Moudy placed first in the seventh grade 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 5:33.94. In the boys' meet, Pike Central posted wins in 11 events while taking first- place honors, scoring 93.5 points to outdistance Wood Memorial (40.5 points) and South Spencer (36). Eighth grader Nate Woolery won three indi- vidual events, placing first in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 5:32, in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:30.56, and in long jump with a leap of 15 feet. Woolery also teamed up with eighth grader Sam Theising and seventh grad- ers Sam Jones and Connor Young to place first in the 3,200 -meter relay with a time of 10 :54. Also placing first in an individual event for the Chargers were seventh grader Colt Armstrong in high jump with a leap of 5 feet; eighth grader Blake Henson in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 50.69 seconds; seventh grader Ethan Huck in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 12.12 seconds; and The- ising in the 110 -meter hur- dles with a time of 19.19 seconds. In addition, the team of Armstrong, Huck, Theis- ing and eighth grader Ty- ler Kirby placed first in the 400 -meter relay with a time of 51.91 seconds; the team of Jones and sev- enth graders Reece Ash- ley, Hunter Russell and Trent Zimmerman placed first in the seventh grade 400 -meter relay with a time of 59.72 seconds; and the team of Young, sixth grad- er Shane Morson and sev- enth graders Garrett Boyd and Gavin Wilson placed first in the seventh grade 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 5:13.48. Pike Central will close out its season with the Pocket Athletic Confer- ence Championships, which will be hosted by Southridge on Saturday, May 14. SPORTS BRIEFS Dubois County Bombers announce youth skills camp dates The Dubois County Bombers have announced the dates of their upcom- ing youth skills camps. The Bombers' coach- ing staff and players will provide valuable baseball instruction to area youth from 6 to 15 years of age at camps in Huntingburg and Jasper. The first camp will take place June 13-15 at League Stadium in Huntingburg. The second camp will take place June 27-29 at the JYSC Little League Fields in Jasper. Each camp will be di- vided into two sessions by age, with ages 6 -9 years reporting from 9 a.m.-10 :30 a.m. daily and ages 10 -15 years report- ing from 10 :30 a.m. to noon daily. All camps cover throw- ing progression/pitching, hitting drills/bunting/ base running, and fielding position by position, plus a game to end the camp with a whole lot of fun. The cost of each three- day camp is $ 60 per par- ticipant, which includes – in addition to the great baseball instruction – a camp t-shirt and a ticket to a Bombers baseball game. Dates set for Charger Tennis Camp Boys who will be enter- ing first through eighth grade next fall who want to learn more about tennis will have that chance this summer. The Charger Tennis Camp will offer two ses- sions. Following are the dates and times for the first ses- sion: • May 30 & 31, June 1, 6 & 7, 10 a.m.-10 :45 a.m. each day, for boys enter- ing grades 1-3. Fee: $29. • May 30 & 31, June 2, 6, 7 & 9, 6 p.m.-7 p.m., for boys entering grades 4-8. Fee: $49. Following are the dates and times for the second session: • June 20, 21, 22, 27 & 28, 10 a.m.-10 :45 a.m., for boys entering grades 1-3. Archery lessons, fun shoot at Patoka Lake May 14 A day of archery at Pato- ka Lake on Saturday, May 14, will start with lessons and end with some friend- ly competition. The event, an introduc- tion to the sport, is open to ages 8 and older. All equipment will be provid- ed. Participation is limited to 20 people and advance registration is required. The lake's naturalist and other certified ar- chery instructors will of- fer instruction for begin- ner and intermediate ar- chers at the property's ar- chery range from 9 a.m. to noon. Through May 15, the public can use a convenient online form to contribute ideas and provide input on issues the DNR has identi- fied for consideration. The form is at wildlife. IN.gov/7373.htm. "Got INput? " allows the public to comment on ideas put forward by the DNR Di- vision of Fish & Wildlife as well as requests for rule changes from citizen peti- tions. The program also al- lows members of the public to propose their own ideas on any fishing, hunting or trapping topic. Got INput users must register with a username and a password. PCHS boys' golf team drops losses to Forest Park, Wood Memorial The Pike Central High School boys' golf team dropped a one-stroke loss to Wood Memorial in a dual match hosted by the Char- gers at the Prides Creek Golf Course on Monday, May 2. Senior Tyler Toopes shot a team-low nine-hole score of 46 while freshman No- ah Onyett and sophomore Lincoln Vaughn both shot 50s. Sophomore Hayden Kabrick, meanwhile, had a 51. Juniors Gabe Elliott and Sam Brandle shot 55 and 58, respectively. Wood Memorial, as a team, edged Pike Central 196 -197. "We didn't play our best," Chargers head coach Jar- rod Gideon said. On Thursday, April 28, the Chargers dropped a 181-192 loss to visiting For- est Park. Onyett and Toopes paced the Chargers with nine- hole scores of 44 while Vaughn shot a 49. Brandle and Elliott had 55s while Kabrick shot a 57. "We're trying to get ev- eryone to play well on the same day," Gideon said. "If we can do that, we will be fine." Pike Central will play at North Daviess on Wednes- day, May 4, before return- ing home to host Tecumseh on Monday, May 9.
