The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, May 4, 2016 D-3 HOME LIFE TO ADVERTISE: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: ads@pressdispatch.net Visit: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Deadline: 5 p.m. on Monday By Cindy L. Petty Press-Dispatch Staff Writer cpetty@pressdispatch.net Like most mothers, I love gifts that my son has made himself. I still have the "monster" bowl he made in first grade! And the story he wrote about him and his dad- dy. Those items are worth more than gold. There are lots of ideas for handmade Mother's Day gifts on Pin- terest, as well as other parts of the Internet. But I found a great idea that will appeal to both boys and girls. Actual- ly, my Sunday School class of 5th and 6th graders loved it! For preschoolers, I would recommend much supervi- sion but older children could do this by themselves. All you need is a plain white ceramic mug, nail pol- ish, a large bowl (one that you don't mind getting nail polish in it), a paint stick or wooden stirrer, and newspa- per for protection of your ta- ble. Wash and dry your mug, making sure to remove the price tag on the bottom. Fill the bowl with lukewarm wa- ter. Working quickly, drop a few drops of nail polish in the water. Use as many colors as you like. I used two for mine. Stir the water gently with the stick. Then dip the mug in the water, rotating to cov- er all sides. Be careful not to get any water inside. If you do get nail polish in the mug, you can take polish remover later to remove it. A fter pull- ing the mug from the water, use the stick to smooth out any rough spots. Place the mug on the newspaper and let dry. Remember that this mug will not be dishwash- er safe so you must hand wash it. To add more sparkle to this gift, include a package of tea, coffee, or hot choco- late plus a box of chocolates and a bouquet of flowers! Then give Mom a big hug and kiss and tell her how much you love her! That would be pretty marvelous! IDEAS AND MARVELOUS MARBLED MOTHER'S DAY MUGS BOYD REALTY & DEVELOPMENT LLC 812-354-8893 602 E.
