Morton, who graduat- ed from Pike Central High School in 2014, also drove in a pair of runs – includ- ing one on a third-inning hit that snapped a 3-3 tie – as Oakland City swept the twinbill with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap. Morton started at catch- er in both games and re- corded a total of eight put- outs and two assists. Morton also went 3-for-6 with one double and drove in two runs as the Lady Oaks split a doubleheader at Midway (Ky.) College on Monday, April 25. Morton is currently bat- ting .333 with 23 hits in 69 at-bats, 10 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. She has nine extra-base hits – sev- en doubles and two home runs. Defensively, Morton has recorded 58 putouts and 13 assists with two er- rors, for a fielding percent- age of .972. Next: The Lady Oaks (13-18) will participate in the NCCA A Mid-West Re- gional Tournament at Mar- ion, Ind., May 8-10. COLLEGIATE SPOTLIGHT Lauren Morton Pike County 7th/8th graders win Evansville Basketball Academy Tournament A team of seventh and eighth grade boys' basketball players from Pike County won the Evansville Basketball Academy Tournament held Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24. The team opened the tournament by splitting a pair of games, defeating the Gibson Southern Titans 42-30 be- fore dropping a 54-37 loss to the Evans- ville Elite. In the first game of the single-elim- ination portion of the tournament, the Pike County squad squared off again against the Gibson Southern Titans and, again, emerged with a 44-39 win. Facing the Evansville Elite in the championship game, the Pike Coun- ty team rallied to win, 41-27. Members of the Pike County team were Ethan Gorby, Jaden Guth, Sean Hanselman, Stephen Krieg, Lars Ut- terback-Brinkman and Austyn Wal- burn. They were coached by Michael Walburn. Sub- mitted Photo PCMS boys' track and field team romps past Dubois The Pike Central Middle School boys' track and field team posted first- place finishes in 15 out of 17 events to romp to a 102-42 win over visiting Du- bois on Thursday, April 28. Seventh grader Ethan Huck won three individual events, placing first in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 12.50 seconds, the 200 -meter dash with a time of 26.60 and in long jump with a leap of 15 feet. Huck also teamed up with seventh grader Colt Armstrong and eighth graders Tyler Kirby and Sam Theis- ing to place first in the 400 -meter re- lay with a time of 51.78 seconds. Armstrong won two individual events, placing first in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:03.59 and tying Dubois' Eli Lueken for first in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches. Eighth grader Blake Henson al- so won two individual events, plac- ing first in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 51.30 seconds and in pole vault with a leap of 8 feet, 3 inches. Also placing first in individual events for the Chargers were Theis- ing in the 110 -meter hurdles with a time of 19.94 seconds; eighth grader Zeb Frasure in shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 3.5 inches; eighth grader Dako- ta Taylor in discus with a throw of 115 feet, 3.5 inches; and eighth grader Na- te Woolery in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 5:23. In addition, the team of Theising, Woolery and seventh graders Sam Jones and Connor Young placed first in the 3,200 -meter relay with a time of 10 :56; the team of Jones and seventh graders Reece Ashley, Hunter Russell and Trent Zimmerman placed first in the seventh grade 400 -meter relay with a time of 57.53 seconds; and the team of Young, sixth graders Caleb Lester and Shane Morson and seventh grad- er Garrett Boyd placed first in the sev- enth grade 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 5:30.78. Placing second in individual events for the Chargers were Frasure in dis- cus with a throw of 90 feet, 6 inches; Blake Henson in the 110 -meter hurdles with a time of 20.81 seconds; Kirby in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 12.82 seconds, in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 28.84 seconds and in pole vault with a leap of 8 feet; Woolery in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:33 and in long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 9 inches; and eighth grader Andrew Claridge in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 51.52 seconds. In addition, the team of eighth grad- ers Jager Gladish, Joel Henson, Alfre- do Stewart and Dalton Williams placed second in the 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 4:50.46. Placing third in individual events for the Chargers were Ashley in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 28.97 seconds; Boyd in pole vault with a leap of 7 feet; Joel Henson in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches; Jones in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:38.56; and Theising in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:05.75. Placing fourth in individual events for the Chargers were Ashley in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:09.54; Claridge in the 110 -meter hurdles with a time of 21.06 seconds and in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches; Gladish in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 55.06 seconds; Blake Henson in long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 2 inches; Morson in the 200 -me- ter dash with a time of 30.28 seconds; Stewart in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 6:22; Williams in the 800 -me- ter run with a time of 2:54.82; Young in pole vault with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches; seventh grader Evan Brackney in shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 3.5 inches; and eighth grader Avery Dyer in dis- cus with a throw of 73 feet, 11 inches. Placing fifth in individual events for the Chargers were Boyd in the 800 -me- ter run with a time of 2:57.66; Dyer in shot put with a throw of 24 feet, 10.5 inches; Frasure in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 14.03 seconds; Gladish in the 110 -meter hurdles with a time of 23.13 seconds; Jones in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:10.50 ; Young in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 57.00 seconds; and eighth grader Lane Parks in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 6:37. Pike Central, which hosted South Spencer and Wood Memorial on Mon- day, May 2, will wrap up its season with the Pocket Athletic Conference Meet hosted by Southridge on Satur- day, May 14. "This year's PAC is going to be a lot of fun, as I know we can compete for the conference championship," Char- gers coach Jeremy Howald said. PCMS girls' track and field team doubles up Dubois, 94-47 The Pike Central Middle School girls' track and field team posted first- place finishes in 12 out of 17 events to romp to a 94-47 win over visiting Du- bois on Thursday, April 28. Seventh grader Libby Stone won three individual events, placing first in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:09.84, the 200 -meter dash with a time of 28.19 seconds and in long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 2 inches. Stone also teamed up with eighth graders Jalyn Nelson and Lily Fred- erick-Rice and seventh grader Lauren Young to place first in the 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 5:10.16. Eighth grader Hadley Holder won two individual events, placing first in shot put with a throw of 25 feet, 2.5 inches, and in discus with a throw of 68 feet, 2 inches. Holder also teamed up with Nelson, seventh grader Lily Willis and eighth grader Jenna McLain to place first in the 400 -meter relay with a time of 58.22 seconds. Also placing first in individual events for the Lady Chargers were McLain in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 13.87 seconds; Young in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 53.46 seconds; and sixth grader Sydney Boyd in pole vault with a leap of 6 feet. In addition, the team of Frederick- Rice, Young, Willis and sixth grad- er Radabaugh placed first in the 3,200 -meter relay with a time of 11:53; and the team of Radabaugh, seventh grader Kailee Mann and sixth graders Cora Anson and Addison Faulk placed first in the seventh grade 400 -meter re- lay with a time of 1:01.68. Placing second in individual events for the Lady Chargers were Anson in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:13.84; Faulk in the 300 -meter low hurdles with a time of 1:01.09; McLain in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 29.05 seconds; Nelson in the 100 -me- ter dash with a time of 13.91 seconds and in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches; Willis in the 800 -meter run with a time of 2:49.15 and in long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 8 inches; and eighth grader Lexie Neese in discus with a throw of 64 feet, 5 inches. In addition, the team of Boyd, sev- enth grader Caitlyn Tyree and sixth graders Jade Kamman and Carissa Moudy placed second in the seventh grade 1,600 -meter relay with a time of 5:52.18. Placing third in individual events for the Lady Chargers were Anson in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 14.13 seconds and in the 200 -meter dash with a time of 30.69 seconds; Freder- ick-Rice in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 6:58.78; Moudy in the 300 -me- ter low hurdles with a time of 1:04.72; eighth grader Anjelina Ruiz in discus with a throw of 55 feet, 1.25 inches; and eighth grader Shelby Sisk in shot put with a throw of 21 feet, 4 inches. In addition, Faulk and seventh grad- er Maddie Williams tied for third in the 100 -meter hurdles with a time of 20.81 seconds. Placing fourth in individual events for the Lady Chargers were Frederick- Rice in the 800 -meter run with a time of 3:07.47; Kamman in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:20.81; Ruiz in shot put with a throw of 18 feet, 7.25 inches; and sixth grader Kayla Cannon in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 7:07.28. In addition, Tyree finished in a fourth-place tie – with Dubois' Abby Uebelhor – in the 100 -meter dash with a time of 15.78 seconds. Placing fifth in individual events for the Lady Chargers were Mann in long jump with a leap of 10 feet, 9 inches; Radabaugh in the 800 -meter run with a time of 3:12.84; Sisk in discus with a throw of 47 feet, 6 inches; sixth grad- er Morgan Anderson in the 300 -me- ter low hurdles with a time of 1:06.25; eighth grader Madyson Hegedus in the 400 -meter dash with a time of 1:21.66; and sixth grader Quinlin Teague in the 1,600 -meter run with a time of 7:07.35.
